Pollo Campero Appoints Julio Sánchez as New CEO of U.S. Operations

Pollo Campero Welcomes Julio Sánchez as New CEO in the U.S.

Pollo Campero, renowned for its flavorful fried and roasted chicken, has officially named Julio Sánchez as the new CEO of its U.S. operations, effective immediately. This strategic appointment marks a significant moment in the company’s trajectory as it aims for further expansion within the U.S. market. Before stepping in as CEO, Sánchez, who boasts over 25 years of multifaceted experience in the restaurant industry, served as the chief operating officer at CKE International, known for the Carl's Jr. brand.

Julio Sánchez brings extensive knowledge from his previous leadership roles at major chains such as Pizza Hut, Burger King, and Church's Chicken. His impressive background encompasses operations, franchising, and global market development throughout regions including North America, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe. He has successfully driven brand introductions into new markets and achieved remarkable same-store sales growth, showcasing a strong ability to adapt and thrive in competitive environments.

In his new role at Pollo Campero, Sánchez is set to lead a dynamic phase of profitable growth for the brand, which currently operates more than 150 locations in the United States. His primary focus will be on enhancing operational excellence, bolstering same-store sales, increasing brand awareness, and improving the overall guest experience. With these goals, Sánchez hopes to share the unique flavors of Pollo Campero with even more American consumers.

Sánchez's appointment comes as appreciation is expressed towards outgoing chief operating officer Luis Javier Rodas, who dedicated nearly 26 years to the company. The brand has seen remarkable growth in the U.S. under Rodas’s direction, setting a solid foundation for Sánchez to build upon.

Highlighting his hands-on leadership style, Julio Sánchez emphasizes the importance of being present in the restaurants, close to team members, franchise partners, and guests who create the dining experience daily. “Julio combines deep operational expertise with sound business judgment and a proven record of delivering results. He is the right leader to guide Campero into its next stage of growth,” stated José Gregorio Baquero, Global CEO of CMI Foods.

Founded in Guatemala in 1971, Pollo Campero has become a beloved quick-service restaurant, known for serving delicious chicken dishes made from generations-old family recipes. The brand not only operates over 400 restaurants in various countries, including the U.S., Guatemala, El Salvador, Mexico, Honduras, and Ecuador, but also employs over 10,000 individuals worldwide. Its commitment to corporate social responsibility spans initiatives such as employee education through the Campero Institute and support for pediatric cancer care through collaborations with organizations like AYUVI and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

In his statement, Sánchez shared his excitement for leading Pollo Campero, saying, “I was immediately drawn to Campero's heritage, sense of hospitality, and, of course, flavor. As we extend Pollo Campero to more communities across the U.S., I’m committed to prioritizing our restaurant team members and guests to ensure a memorable experience every time they come to our table.”

This commitment aligns with Pollo Campero’s broader vision as it seeks to grow and resonate with new customers while retaining its core values rooted in Guatemalan culture and cuisine. With Sánchez's expertise and leadership, the brand is poised for a successful journey ahead in the U.S. market.
