Immerse Yourself in the Gift Economy at '0-yen House City-Home Circulation'
Get ready for a unique experiential event taking place on December 13th and 14th at Koenji Masita, located under the elevated train tracks near Koenji Station. This event, titled '0-yen House City-Home Circulation', represents an experimental dive into the realm of Gift Economy 2.0, where everything is entirely free. Think of it as a grand festival version of the "Take it freely" concept often seen in public spaces.
What is Heartland?
Heartland is an initiative by the Heartland Association, which aims to introduce a new gift economy framework powered by blockchain technology through its app. Their goal is to create a socially implemented model of a new gift economy—a concept that revolves around the cycle of giving and receiving.
Understanding the Gift Economy
The Gift Economy is a system where economic activities thrive on acts of kindness and altruism. In modern society, you can observe this as loyalty to a company, where employees contribute more than just their salary. In traditional structures like lifetime employment, there are benefits for individuals engaging in this system of reciprocity, yet it can become a form of binding obligation reminiscent of feudal relationships.
The Vision of Gift Economy 2.0
Based on the latest research by Professor Daisuke Aratani from Keio University, Gift Economy 2.0 aims to obliterate the drawbacks of the original model using blockchain technology. This concept envisions a binding-free global gift economy.
At its core, Heartland champions trust built through gratitude, fostering gentle relationships among individuals. The app incorporates familiar social media features but stands out with its unique system for generating a “circulation of gratitude” through the 'Heart' feature.
Users can send 'hearts' to others based on the magnitude of their gratitude. The recipient's heart count is updated on their profile, creating a blockchain-recorded history of gratitude interactions. This system allows for a deeper, more sustainable personal relationship than simple likes—a true testament to gratitude and trust.
What to Expect at the Event
The '0-yen House City-Home Circulation' serves as a live laboratory to test the principles of Gift Economy 2.0, urging participants to utilize the Heartland app during the event. This is a chance to personally experience the cycle of giving at a community level while also validating the practical applications of blockchain technology.
The event will showcase installations inspired by the theme of '0-yen House,' where everything exhibited can be taken home without cost. Expect to find a variety of items—from clothes and books to lunchboxes! (Note: Lunchboxes will be available only on December 14 and must be pre-ordered.)
Additional Features:
- - Collaborative Art Installations: Works by local Koenji artists will be on display, contributing to the community feel of the event. These artworks will be available for participants to take home as well.
- - Performance Lineup: Over the two days, enjoy a plethora of performances, including dance, music, and even unique experiences like a mock funeral!
-
December 13: Aurora Floor, Working Band, Sokerissa
-
December 14: Pondeart, Death Fest, Movers Platform, and more.
- - Workshops: Engage in hands-on activities that also tie into the concept of taking experiences home with you.
Heartland App Utilization
To further validate the transformative capabilities of Gift Economy 2.0, we invite all participants—both performers and attendees—to utilize the Heartland app for exchanging values throughout the event. This is a remarkable opportunity to shape a living gift economy while showcasing the advantages of blockchain technology.
