ASAKUSA CULTURE & LIGHTS 2025: A Cultural Light Experience in Tokyo
From December 3 to 7, 2025, the iconic Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa, Tokyo, will host a groundbreaking event called
ASAKUSA CULTURE & LIGHTS 2025. This year’s festivities will feature remarkable projection mapping, a first in the temple's rich 1,400-year history. The event is organized by
Hitohata, Inc., under the auspices of the ASAKUSA CULTURE & LIGHTS executive committee.
A Stunning Display of Light
The centerpiece of the event will be impressive digital animations projected onto Senso-ji’s
Hozomon Gate,
Five-story Pagoda, and the important cultural property,
Nitenmon Gate. Each projection will be inspired by the temple's long-standing history and cultural legacy, providing visitors with an unforgettable experience.
Free Entry to the Projections
Viewing the projection mapping is completely free, and no prior registration is required. Attendees can simply show up at the event during its operating hours from
5:30 PM to 9:30 PM daily.
Unique Daytime and Nighttime Tours
In conjunction with the evening projections, the temple will also offer daytime special viewings of the normally closed
Denpoin Garden and
Ema Hall, which features large ema (votive wooden plaques) crafted by historical artists such as
Utagawa Kuniyoshi and
Hasegawa Seitan. Pre-registration is required, and tickets are available for special viewings during both day and night. Daytime tours will run from
9:00 AM to 3:30 PM, while nighttime viewings of the glowing Denpoin Garden will occur from
5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
