Discover Innovative Manufacturing at the Special Seminar by Takao Kijima in Hiroshima

Explore Innovative Manufacturing with Takao Kijima in Hiroshima

On April 21, 2026, Newton Works Co., Ltd. will host a special seminar featuring Takao Kijima, the former chief engineer of the Mazda MX-5 (known as the Roadster in Japan), at the Hiroshima Prefectural Information Plaza. This event titled "Hiroshima's Approach to Sensory-Focused Manufacturing and Thoughtful CAE Design" aims to address the current challenges facing Japan's manufacturing industry while sharing invaluable insights from experienced engineers.

Background: Conveying Wisdom in a Transformative Era

Japan's manufacturing sector is currently navigating turbulent waters, exacerbated by escalating global competition and fluctuating electric vehicle policies across various countries. In this context, the seminar seeks to provide a platform for emerging engineers to learn from the journeys and experiences of veteran engineers who have successfully overcome numerous challenges. The event is part of the "Wisdom Transmission Project," designed to share the essential knowledge encapsulated in Japan’s renowned craftsmanship with the next generation of engineers, demonstrating gratitude toward those in the manufacturing industry.

Seminar Highlights

1. Special Lecture by Legendary Engineer Takao Kijima

Participants will have the opportunity to learn about Kijima’s experiences in product development, focusing on themes such as "sensory-oriented product development" and the integration of emotion with objects. He will share stories from the development of the Mazda Roadster, including various challenges faced throughout the process. This lecture offers a unique chance to gain insights that are still relevant today.

2. Introduction to Advanced Simulation Technologies (CAE)

Newton Works will present innovative simulation technologies supporting a human-centered development approach. Participants will be introduced to comprehensive design processes that connect overall vehicle perspectives to component design, transitioning from 1D CAE to detailed shape designs. Additionally, practical methods linked to next-generation manufacturing, including advanced data analysis technologies, will be highlighted.
