Iwate Prefecture, particularly Ofunato City, has been recovering from the devastating effects of the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 and a severe forest fire in 2022 that claimed vast tracts of forest land. While governmental restoration projects provide some relief, there are areas that remain untouched, including private and outlying lands that still require care. In response, the Tokyo Station Hotel plans to engage in reforestation activities, stepping in to restore one hectare of land annually starting from the fiscal year 2026.

Established in 2007 by musician Ryuichi Sakamoto and now led by architect Kengo Kuma, the non-profit organization more trees has been instrumental in various forest conservation activities—including tree planting, carbon offset credits, and educational workshops. They have continuously connected urban populations with forest conservation efforts, emphasizing the significance of nurturing our environment. For over a decade, they have aided the hotel in creating Christmas ornaments, with all funds raised directed towards these conservation activities.
