DICK'S Sporting Goods Allocates Over $10 Million for Disaster Relief in California and North Carolina

DICK'S Sporting Goods Commits Over $10 Million for Relief Efforts

In a significant gesture of support, DICK'S Sporting Goods and The DICK'S Sporting Goods Foundation have pledged more than $10 million to assist communities reeling from the devastating wildfires in California and severe flooding in North Carolina. This commitment is a multifaceted approach to not only address urgent needs but also support long-term recovery efforts in the affected regions.

A Comprehensive Commitment

The scope of DICK'S initiatives includes a range of donations such as clothing, sporting goods, and monetary support, addressing immediate emergency requirements as well as aiding in the restoration of these communities.

Ed Stack, Executive Chairman of DICK'S Sporting Goods, expressed profound concern regarding the impact of these natural disasters. He stated, "The devastation these events have caused is heartbreaking, and we're committed to helping our athletes, communities, and teammates rebuild and recover from these tragic occurrences." Stack emphasized the important role of first responders and organizations involved in relief efforts in cities like Los Angeles and Asheville.

How the Aid Will Be Distributed

The contributions made by DICK'S Sporting Goods and its foundation will include:

  • - In-Kind Donations: With a retail value exceeding $8 million, DICK’s will provide clothing, footwear, and sporting goods to those in need through collaborations with organizations like Good Sports and 4 Good Community.
  • - Monetary Donations: The company plans to donate $1 million to the American Red Cross, which will help provide shelter, meals, and other resources in Los Angeles, Asheville, and Western North Carolina. This donation is in addition to DICK'S ongoing contributions to the charity's Annual Disaster Giving Program and Disaster Responder Program.
  • - Checkout Donation Options: From January 27 to February 22, 2025, customers at DICK’S, Golf Galaxy, and Going Going Gone! can contribute to disaster relief efforts during checkout. The DICK'S Foundation will match these donations dollar-for-dollar, hoping to raise nearly $1 million for local schools and nonprofits.
  • - 'LA Strong' Merchandise Collection: In partnership with leading sports organizations, DICK'S is now selling the 'LA Strong' apparel line, with all proceeds supporting the American Red Cross and the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation.

Direct Support for Affected Athletes

Beyond merchandise and monetary support, DICK'S stores, alongside GameChanger, have contributed vital supplies such as athletic apparel and sleeping gear to athletes in both California and North Carolina. They have also allocated $100,000 in Sports Matter grants to assist youth sports teams in the Asheville area.

DICK'S is also extending financial and emotional support to affected employees through their Teammate Relief Fund, ensuring their well-being during these difficult times.

Looking Towards the Future

As part of its ongoing commitment, DICK'S Sporting Goods plans to engage with other corporate partners to create additional initiatives aimed at supporting disaster recovery efforts. Further details surrounding future events and collaborations will be disclosed as they become available.
