Sanofi S.A. Takes Top Honors at 2026 ISPE Facility Awards
Sanofi S.A. has been awarded the Overall Winner title at the 2026 ISPE Facility of the Year Awards (FOYA) for their pioneering Modulus project. This prestigious recognition, presented by the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE), underscores the company’s commitment to excellence and innovation in pharmaceutical facility design and manufacturing.
The announcement was made during the ISPE FOYA Banquet and Awards Celebration held on October 18, 2026, as part of the 2026 ISPE Annual Meeting & Expo in Washington, D.C. Distinguished industry leaders, project teams, and partners gathered to honor the winners of this year’s awards, culminating a thrilling journey within the FOYA framework.
"For over twenty years, the FOYA program has acknowledged groundbreaking projects that push the boundaries of pharmaceutical manufacturing," stated Parag Sane, Chair of the Facility of the Year Awards Judging Committee. He emphasized that Sanofi's Modulus project exemplifies an innovative approach to facility design, integrating modular architecture, digital technologies, and remarkable operational flexibility tailored to the rapidly changing needs of vaccine and biologics production.
The Modulus project features two advanced manufacturing facilities located in Neuville-sur-Saône, France, and Tuas, Singapore. Both facilities are devised to bolster flexible production of vaccines and biologics, structured around a modular "plug-and-produce" framework. This unique architectural style allows for adaptable manufacturing spaces, advanced automation technologies, and autonomous mobile robots powered by digital twin technology. The result is a robust and rapid reconfiguration ability for various products and manufacturing platforms.
With a standardized design replicated across its global sites, the Modulus project is not merely about producing cutting-edge vaccines but demonstrates Sanofi’s foresight in accommodating diverse production demands over the facilities’ lifespans.
Before clinching the Overall Winner title, the Modulus project was recognized as a finalist for the 2026 ISPE FOYA during the Facilities of the Future Conference and also received the title of Category Winner for Facility of the Future at the ISPE Europe Annual Conference earlier in 2026.
With the close of this year’s awards program, the call for submissions for the 2027 FOYA program is already underway, with the deadline set for December 7. The finalists for the 2027 ISPE FOYA will be unveiled at the Facilities of the Future Conference scheduled for February 1-2, 2027, in Long Beach, California.
The FOYA initiative, established in 2005, is dedicated to recognizing pioneering projects that employ modern technologies to enhance product quality, drive down production costs, and promote improvements in how pharmaceutical projects are delivered. It serves as an essential conduit for the pharmaceutical science and manufacturing community to showcase remarkable achievements in facility design, construction, and operational advancements.
