Eliza Dushku Transitions to a New Career as a Therapist After Earning Advanced Degree

Eliza Dushku's Inspiring Journey Toward Healing Others

Former actress Eliza Dushku has made an impressive transition from Hollywood star to dedicated mental health therapist. This month, she celebrated the culmination of her hard work and commitment by earning her Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on June 6, 2025.

Dushku, known for her memorable roles in popular series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, describes her graduation as more than just an educational milestone; it's a deep realization of her true calling. On her Instagram, she shared: "Graduating with my master's degree (!!) feels like more than an achievement—it feels like a deep calling realized. True growth, energy, and passion—manifested!"

In her new role as a therapist, Dushku aims to leverage both her education and her personal healing journey to assist others grappling with trauma, addiction, and various mental health challenges.

Reflecting on her new path, Dushku stated, "Today, I stand grounded and ready to support others on their journeys of becoming—through self-discovery, healing, and transformation. The connectedness I feel in holding safe, compassionate space for those who seek the undertaking is such lifeblood now." Her compassionate approach is influenced by her goal to create a nurturing environment for clients seeking to navigate their struggles.

Dushku credits her family for their unwavering support throughout her educational journey. In her heartfelt post, she expressed gratitude toward her husband, Peter Palandjian—his rich background as both a former professional tennis player and CEO of Intercontinental Real Estate Corporation adds an intriguing dynamic to their partnership. The couple has two sons, and Dushku acknowledges the "little sacrifices made and love you gave each day to honor and support this dream."

The transition marks a significant pivot in Dushku's life, particularly after stepping back from her acting career in 2017. During her time away from the limelight, she has immersed herself in studying mental health and seeking certification in psychedelic-assisted therapy. This innovative approach to therapy resonates with her ongoing battle with personal trauma and challenges.

In a previous interview with Boston Magazine, she disclosed her decision to explore psychedelics as a means of fostering her wellness and recovery, underscoring her commitment to healing: "I had the means to shift directions and choose a course in my life that focused on healing myself so that I could help heal others. I would be remiss if I didn't now share the transformation and the peace and the passion that I have. This is just absolutely so clearly my real calling, my real purpose."

In her graduation post, she concluded with the Latin phrase "Non sibi sed toti," which translates to "not for themselves, but for all," signifying her dedication to uplifting and empowering those around her.

Dushku's entertainment career is notable, having starred in both television and film, with roles in hits like True Lies, Bye Bye Love, and Dollhouse. As she embarks on this new journey in mental health, her story serves as a powerful reminder of the human capacity for growth, transformation, and resilience. Through her unwavering commitment to helping others, Dushku is bound to leave an impactful legacy beyond the stage and screen, dedicating her life to the enrichment of others' mental well-being.
