Nessou and Plenus Join Forces to Support Children's Cafes with Recyclable Containers

Innovative Recycling Initiative for Children's Cafes

Nessou Co., Ltd., headquartered in Setagaya, Tokyo and led by CEO Yuki Kido, is launching a collaborative project with Plenus Co., Ltd., based in Ginza, Tokyo. This initiative aims to support children's cafes by providing them with unique recyclable containers that can be returned without being washed. The primary goal is to ensure that all children have equal opportunities and can confront the future with hope.

The project introduces the recyclable plastic container known as "P&P Repack" (referred to as "Repack"), specifically designed to be collected without washing, promoting an effortless recycling process. These containers, which have been recognized with the Eco Mark certification by Plenus, will be donated free of charge to children's cafes operating in selected regions, starting with an initial supply of around 10,000 units in the first phase in fiscal 2026.

Background of the Initiative

Children's cafes often have limited staff and volunteers who handle various tasks, including procuring ingredients, cooking, serving meals, and cleaning up. In situations where large numbers of meals are served, managing dishware can be overwhelming, especially given the constraints of storage and washing facilities. As a result, disposable containers are sometimes utilized for hygiene and efficiency reasons.

According to a 2025 survey by the certified NPO Musubie, which supports children's cafes, while 89.6% of respondents reported receiving food supplies from their communities, only 27.9% received support for non-food materials and equipment. This highlights the limited community assistance for the logistical needs of children's cafes.

Moreover, with the ongoing rise in living costs, securing operational funds, ingredients, and essential materials like containers is becoming increasingly challenging for these cafés. Traditional single-use containers are often discarded after use, necessitating a better system that maintains convenience but also contributes to resource recycling.

Aiming for Sustainable Support Structure

The joint project aims to connect Plenus's environmental efforts with support for local children's cafes. By utilizing a portion of the sales from eco-friendly containers, they intend to offer "Repack" to targeted children's cafes in various areas. This approach allows the initiative to provide continuous aid, not just one-time donations, thus creating a sustainable support structure.

Nessou has a history of enabling access to food and experiences for children through hometown tax initiatives and linking unused food supplies to those in need. In this project, they will leverage their knowledge and network to coordinate the donation of containers, guide usage and collection, and collect feedback on the initiative's progress.

In the first phase of fiscal 2026, approximately 10,000 containers will be distributed. Plans are in place to offer additional support several times throughout the year, aiming for a total of around 30,000 donated containers.

Nessou and Plenus are committed to reducing the operational burdens of children's cafes while creating opportunities for children to learn about resource recycling through hands-on experiences.

Features of the Repack Container

The "Repack" container is designed such that after use, the film can easily be removed, minimizing food residue, allowing it to be collected without washing. Once collected, these containers can be recycled and transformed into raw materials for new containers. Depending on the operational capacity of the children's cafes, children can even participate in removing the film, thus fostering an educational environment around recycling.

How Children's Cafes Can Implement Repack

At children’s cafes, after providing meals, the film can be peeled off the containers and returned according to specified guidelines, creating a seamless cycle of
