Daicel Corporation's New DURACON® POM Line

In a remarkable stride towards sustainability, Daicel Corporation's High Performance Polymers (HPPs) SBU, which was previously known as Polyplastics Co., Ltd., has officially launched a new line of DURACON® Polyoxymethylene (POM) grades. This innovative product range contains 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) material, effectively addressing the growing demand for environmentally friendly materials in industrial applications.

The newly introduced DURACON grades include four distinct types: standard, low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), sliding, and tough grades. Each grade is designed to cater to the specific requirements of various customer applications, providing flexibility and performance without compromising on quality.

Daicel made this exciting announcement at CHINAPLAS 2026, held in Shanghai this past April. Among the notable features of the standard PCR-POM grade is its melt flow rate of 9, while the low VOC offerings meet stringent original equipment manufacturer (OEM) standards. In addition, the sliding grade boasts improved sliding properties, and the tough materials maintain performance levels equivalent to those of conventional virgin POM grades.

Since 2023, Daicel has been at the forefront of recycling efforts with its DURACIRCLE® service, which collects and recycles plastic scraps generated in customer facilities. Earlier initiatives primarily emphasized post-industrial recycling (PIR); however, this new PCR-POM line breaks new ground by focusing on reusing POM materials that have already served consumer markets. This shift demonstrates Daicel's commitment to circular economy principles.

One of the prominent challenges of utilizing post-consumer recycled materials lies in maintaining reliability and consistent quality. However, Daicel's expertise in compounding and rigorous quality control measures have successfully confirmed that the mechanical properties of these new grades are comparable to those of traditional materials, even with a significant incorporation of recycled content. This ensures that users do not have to compromise on performance when opting for sustainable alternatives.
