On April 16, 2026, Clé de Peau Beauté announced the renewal of its three-year global partnership with UNICEF, embarking on a new chapter aimed at helping an additional 7.3 million girls worldwide. This partnership is marked by a total financial commitment of $17.4 million since 2019, making it the largest contribution from the private sector to UNICEF's Global Gender Equality Program, designed to accelerate positive change for adolescent girls. The partnership has successfully supported 12.9 million girls globally, exceeding its original objectives so far.
With the extension of this collaboration into its third phase, programs backed by Clé de Peau Beauté will broaden their focus beyond STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) to include a more significant STEAM (adding Arts to the existing STEM) approach. This initiative aims to integrate creativity and artistic expression into educational frameworks that empower girls. For instance, in Indonesia, girls involved in project-based educational initiatives are already combining scientific knowledge with creative expression to develop innovative solutions that boost resilience against climate change.
Naomi Kawanishi, the global president of Clé de Peau Beauté, expressed her heartfelt satisfaction about the partnership’s impact: 'Witnessing how this partnership has already transformed the lives of girls, fostering confidence, creativity, and new future opportunities, made the decision to renew our commitment highly significant.' She further emphasized the benefits of the STEAM approach in empowering girls with not only technical knowledge but also the creative confidence necessary to become true innovators, thereby helping unlock their full potential.
This renewed commitment by Clé de Peau Beauté comes at a critical juncture. Girls around the world continue to face significant barriers to education and skills development, with 122 million remaining out of school. Nearly 40% of adolescent girls and young women do not complete secondary education, highlighting the urgent need for continued investment in this area. Moreover, girls are underrepresented in STEM and digital technology fields, constituting only 35% of STEM graduates and just 3% of graduates in computer science and telecommunications. Close to 50 million girls lack basic literacy skills, and in low-income countries, around 90% remain without access to the internet, severely limiting their educational opportunities and growth.
These challenges are compounded by overlapping barriers, including harmful gender norms, early marriages, and unpaid caregiving responsibilities, which underscore the need for long-term investments and gender-inclusive approaches that enable girls to acquire the skills and opportunities necessary for shaping their futures.
Through this renewed partnership, Clé de Peau Beauté and UNICEF will persist in working towards enhancing opportunities for girls worldwide, empowering the next generation to realize their full potential.
