Exciting Debut of the Australian Labradoodle at Japan Dog Fest 2025
From June 6 to June 8, 2025, the Japan Dog Fest will take place at Odaiba Central Square, representing one of the largest outdoor dog events in the country. This year marks a special occasion as the
Australian Labradoodle (AL) makes its debut at this prominent festival.
Unique Breed Significance
The Australian Labradoodle is a rare breed in Japan, with only about 5,600 dogs registered nationwide. Lake Woods Garden, a breed trainer based in Chiyoda, Tokyo, is the exclusive breeder recognized by the
Japanese Australian Labradoodle Association (ALAJ). Known for their soft and fluffy coats, ALs are considered therapy dogs due to their hypoallergenic qualities, making them ideal companions for people with allergies.
Visitors to Lake Woods Garden's booth will have a unique opportunity to interact with 4 to 5 Australian Labradoodles every day from 10 AM to 3:30 PM during the event. Each interaction lasts for 15 minutes and is free of charge. Participants will also receive a special coupon as a thank-you for joining.
Engaging Activities at the Event
In honor of the Australian Labradoodle's first appearance, there will be an
AL Color Variety Election held from June 6 to June 8 from 11 AM to 5 PM daily. Attendees can vote for their favorite AL from a diverse range of colors and patterns. Those who participate in the AL interaction sessions or an exclusive project for AL owners will be eligible to vote. Results will be announced later on the official website of Lake Woods Garden.
Additionally, there will be a special project available to AL owners from 11 AM to 3 PM each day, which involves creating a
Cheki Board displaying various AL colors. Owners can photograph their ALs, and the goal is to showcase 200 dogs in a vibrant collage categorized by coat color. This interactive creation will highlight the diverse charm of the AL breed.
On June 7 from 11 AM to 12 PM, a breed-specific
AL Meetup hosted by FLAFFY will offer AL owners a chance to connect, exchange business cards, and capture memorable moments together.
The Australian Labradoodle: A Brief Overview
Originating in Australia, this breed was developed to assist a woman who was visually impaired and her owner who suffered from dog allergies. ALs are celebrated for their gentle demeanor and intelligence, which aligns with their design for therapy and service work, making them exceptional companion animals. They combine the loving traits of Labrador Retrievers with the hypoallergenic characteristics of Poodles, making them ideal as social dogs. Many current ALs actively help others as therapy dogs in senior care facilities, further expanding their roles in community support.
In a significant move towards their future in service, Lake Woods Garden plans to establish a partnership agreement with the
Japan Guide Dog Association in September 2024, launching joint projects to explore the possibilities of training ALs as guide dogs.
