The KRW1 stablecoin, issued by Beyond Digital Asset Custody Service (BDACS), allows Korean investors to navigate the RWA ecosystem without resorting to the U.S. dollar. "We are currently operating one of the largest RWA ecosystems globally, with over 280,000 RWA holders and $645 million in RWA. The choice of the Korean won as Plume's first non-USD currency is a reflection of South Korea's regulatory readiness. Last year, legislative amendments in capital markets and electronic securities paved the way for security token offerings (STO), which integrate security tokens into the regulated financial system. According to experts, South Korea boasts one of the most advanced regulatory environments for RWA across Asia.

Pornprinya emphasized the strategic importance of South Korea, stating, "The regulatory landscape is relatively clear and supportive of innovation. This makes Korea a key strategic hub for expanding Plume’s influence in Asia, particularly as major financial institutions develop RWA-related investments and blockchain technologies."

Technical Infrastructure Behind KRW1

Launched in September 2025 by BDACS, the KRW1 stablecoin is fully backed by KRW deposits in a segregated account with Woori Bank, a trusted national commercial bank. BDACS successfully conducted a proof of concept (PoC) that validated both the technical feasibility and the operational stability of the initiative, encompassing KRW deposits, token issuance, and blockchain verification.
