REI Co-op Partners with Intrepid Travel to Launch Unique Active Trips for Members

Discovering the World: REI Co-op and Intrepid Travel Collaboration

In a significant and exciting partnership, REI Co-op, a top outdoor retailer, has teamed up with Intrepid Travel, known as the world's largest adventure travel company. This collaboration aims to provide an array of small-group active travel experiences that promise to enrich the way travelers connect with different cultures and stunning locales. Set to launch in January 2026, these trips cater primarily to REI members and customers who seek adventure and meaningful experiences beyond typical tourist spots.

Transformative Travel Experiences

Susan Viscon, REI’s Chief New Ventures and Impact Officer, expressed great enthusiasm about the initiative. She highlighted that these trips would not only satisfy the adventurous spirit of REI members but also adhere to the co-op’s dedication to promoting the beauty of nature, inclusivity, and sustainability. According to them, the trips are designed to create an environment where travelers can enjoy both the familiarity of outdoor adventures and the excitement of uncovering the unknown. This collaborative project underlines the importance of being connected to nature and local communities.

Intrepid Travel President for the Americas, Leigh Barnes, stressed that REI members are eager for genuine, unique travel experiences that foster community connections. By bringing together REI's extensive knowledge of outdoor activities and Intrepid's commitment to responsible tourism, this partnership makes it easier for members to step off the beaten path and truly experience the world.

Exclusive and Recommended Collections

The upcoming travel collections will consist of the REI Exclusive and REI Recommended trips. The REI Exclusive collection will offer over 25 different trips, lasting from three to 14 days, showcasing remarkable destinations such as Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Italy, Japan, Morocco, Nepal, Peru, Portugal, Spain, Tanzania, and even iconic locations within the United States. Whether participants are interested in alpine hikes, multi-sport adventures, wildlife encounters, or women-led expeditions, each journey will be expertly guided by Intrepid's local specialists.

On the other hand, the REI Recommended collection will feature more than 50 journeys across 32 countries, spanning diverse regions like Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, North America, and South America. Each trip might range from four to 15 days, with some offering premium accommodations and unique experiences. Both collection offerings can be found on REI.com/travel. Although everyone can book these adventures, REI members will enjoy significant discounts: 15% off exclusive trips and a 20% coupon for future REI purchases when booking a recommended trip.

Sustainable Travel with a Purpose

Notably, the ethos behind these trips is that exploring the world should also contribute to its preservation. A portion of the proceeds from trip bookings—specifically, one percent—will go to support the REI Cooperative Action Fund, while Intrepid Travel’s commitment to responsible tourism continues through the Intrepid Foundation. Since its inception in 2021, the REI Cooperative Action Fund has made impressive strides, investing nearly $36 million in over 500 nonprofits dedicated to making the outdoors more accessible and inclusive. Similarly, The Intrepid Foundation has supported various partners worldwide, contributing over AU$20 million to projects aimed at creating a positive impact through travel.

Additionally, the co-op offers a comprehensive range of gear and apparel to meet all outdoor needs. Travelers can also reference curated packing lists crafted by REI experts and explore informative travel books provided by Intrepid to enhance their understanding of the destinations they will visit.

In the coming years, both the REI Exclusive and REI Recommended collections are set to grow further, adapting to the evolving interests and demands of travelers.
