AccessLex Institute's LexPreLaw Initiative Celebrates Five Years of Supporting Future Law Students

Celebrating Five Years of LexPreLaw

In a milestone event, AccessLex Institute® has marked the fifth anniversary of its LexPreLaw initiative, a program that has positively impacted the lives of over 1,000 aspiring law students since its inception in 2020. Launched under the LexScholars umbrella, LexPreLaw is dedicated to enhancing the accessibility of resources for those with limited means to pursue legal education.

The Mission of LexPreLaw

LexPreLaw aims to address disparities in legal education access. The initiative offers various forms of assistance, including LSAT preparation, admission counseling, financial aid, and tailored support systems. This unique approach focuses on students who might face barriers in gaining admission to law school, particularly due to low LSAT scores or unfamiliarity with the application procedures.

According to a comprehensive five-year research report that highlights the initiative's impact, LexPreLaw has successfully served:
  • - 1,002 participants, with a remarkable 92% belonging to underrepresented racial or ethnic groups.
  • - 80% of participants identified as coming from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • - 157 participants have received at least one admission offer from a law school, with 109 receiving scholarship offers.
  • - 117 participants have enrolled in law school, and among them, 53 have already graduated.

Key Findings from the Research Report

The research revealed some compelling practices that correlate with increased admission chances:
  • - Participants who enrolled in LSAT preparation courses before August 1 were found to be 48% more likely to gain admission.
  • - Those who completed the LSAT before November 1 had a 24% higher likelihood of admission compared to later test-takers.
  • - Applying to law school before December 1 increased chances of admission by 13%, and those who submitted applications to five or more schools were more than twice as likely to receive offers.

Leadership's Vision for the Future

Aaron N. Taylor, the Executive Director of the AccessLex Center for Legal Education Excellence®, articulates the core philosophy behind LexPreLaw: "LexPreLaw was created to help expand access to resources, guidance, and support that increase one's chances of getting into law school. By targeting aspiring students who are least likely to gain admission, LexPreLaw is helping raise trajectories in ways that benefit participants and society."

Looking ahead, Taylor expresses optimism for the program's growth and impact, aiming for further advancements in the next five years.
