Introducing New Emergency Transport Services on Shinkansen Routes in Japan

New Emergency Transport Services on Shinkansen Routes

In a significant development for long-distance logistics, JR Tokai and JR West announced the launch of an emergency transport service aimed to meet the rising demand for same-day deliveries across Japan. Starting June 1, 2026, customers can take advantage of this service that connects major cities through the Tōkaidō and Sanyō Shinkansen lines.

Service Overview

This service merges the existing offerings from both companies: the 'Ultra Mach' service by JR Tokai and the 'Quick' service by JR West. The collaboration enhances logistical efficiency by enabling emergency shipments between Tokyo Station and Hiroshima Station, as well as Tokyo Station and Hakata Station. This means companies and individuals can send packages that are picked up and delivered on the same day, significantly streamlining urgent logistics needs.

Key Details:

1. Start Date: The service will officially commence on June 1, 2026.
2. Transport Routes: Currently, the transport will operate on:
- Tokyo Station to Hiroshima Station
- Tokyo Station to Hakata Station
Other routes are not included at this time.
3. Travel Times: The service promises swift delivery, with an estimated time of about four hours to travel from Tokyo to Hiroshima and approximately five hours to Hakata. It's important to note that the times provided do not account for the necessary time involved in package acceptance and retrieval.

Important Guidelines:

  • - For Downward Shipments (From Tokyo to Hiroshima/Hakata): Packages must be submitted at least one hour prior to the train’s departure time at Tokyo Station. The expected pickup time at Hiroshima and Hakata will be approximately 30 minutes after the train's arrival.
  • - For Upward Shipments (From Hiroshima/Hakata to Tokyo): Packages must be taken to the train stations 30 minutes before departure. Delivery to Tokyo Station will occur about 30 minutes following arrival.

Please be informed that schedule details may change without notice, and further information can be found on the official website.

Limitations:

  • - During peak seasons such as Golden Week, Obon, and New Year, the service might not operate.
  • - Extreme weather events like heavy rain or typhoons could affect service availability.

Additional Services:

For more details regarding other existing services like the pre-booked 'Mach' service for rapid package deliveries or the same-day 'Ultra Mach' service specifically for select stations, interested customers are directed to the JR Tokai Logistics website for comprehensive information.

Customer Inquiries:

Customers wishing to utilize the new service must first establish a contract with JR Tokai Logistics. This service is designed strictly for transport from the departure to the arrival station, and arrangements for first-mile and last-mile logistics can be coordinated with the associated transportation service providers listed on the website.
