Redcliff to Present First-ever Drone Show at Biwako Fireworks Festival 2026
In an exciting development for the 2026 Biwako Fireworks Festival, Redcliff Inc., a Tokyo-based company specializing in drone shows, will manage and operate the inaugural drone display for this iconic event. Scheduled for August 6, 2026, in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, this year's festival marks its 40th anniversary, themed "Sengoku Discovery: Shiga Lake Summer Campaign."
The festival will feature a dual-part program for the first time, with Redcliff overseeing the first part titled "Mother Lake: Overlapping Lights." This segment, taking place from 7:30 PM to 7:45 PM, will incorporate 1,300 drones that will creatively synchronize with fireworks and laser beams, bringing the beauty of Lake Biwa and visions for its future to life in the night sky.
A New Dimension in Entertainment
The drone show, designed around the themes of "Regional Charm," "Mother Lake Biwa," and "From Past to Future," will showcase Shiga’s rich natural beauty and local tourism assets, while featuring beloved characters that resonate with children. This inclusive presentation aims to engage audiences of all ages and nationalities, ensuring a memorable experience for everyone.
Yuta Hori, the show's director, emphasizes a narrative connection to the tourism concept "Shigarhythm," mixing visual storytelling with harmonious music. According to Hori, the goal is to create a singular visual tableau that merges both drones and fireworks, enhancing the celebratory atmosphere.
"This year's theme is designed to express the 40th anniversary as one cohesive story. Instead of competing, fireworks and drones will create a shared imagery in the night sky. Enjoy the unique interplay of light and sound that you can only experience on this special night," Hori notes.
Director's Background
Yuta Hori is an award-winning director who gained recognition as the first Japanese winner at the Chicago TAP Festival in 2007. Currently, he leads "PORI design notes," a creative firm blending music, visuals, laser elements, and fireworks to craft immersive experiences.
