Experience the Unique Winter-Edition Kiri-e Goshuin at Ryuusenji Temple

Discover the Winter-Exclusive Kiri-e Goshuin

Ryuusenji Temple, a prominent center for warding off misfortunes in Saitama, is now offering two exclusive winter Kiri-e Goshuin, starting from December 1. Produced by ELternal, a venture established by Waseda University, these unique prints—'Real Snowdome' and 'Yukigekko'—bring a fresh artistic vision to Goshuin (temple seals).

A New Era of Goshuin: Real Snowdome

The 'Real Snowdome' is Japan's first Clear Art Goshuin. By combining Kiri-e (cut-paper art) with transparent acrylic and holographic foil, it creates a completely innovative way to present Goshuin. The unique properties of the acrylic allow light to permeate, casting ethereal shadows and showcasing a multidimensional appearance that previous designs could not achieve. Each Snowdome holds a story, capturing the essence of adventure in a beautifully crafted scene.

The motifs included in the snowdomes are rich with narratives, allowing visitors to become immersed in their own journey every time they view the print. This one-of-a-kind Goshuin is a celebration of creativity and tradition, merging ancient Japanese artistry with modern techniques.

The Graceful Yukigekko

The second offering, 'Yukigekko,' captures the tranquil beauty of falling snow under the moonlight on a clear winter night. Each snowflake in the design has been intricately crafted, enhanced with bright colors that express their delicate charm. Using a special pearl-like paper topped with silver holographic foil, 'Yukigekko' reflects a twinkling effect reminiscent of real snow, encapsulating the beauty of winter blossoms.

Moreover, the traditional symbols of Japanese winters—Nanten (heavenly bamboo) and plum blossoms—are included in the artwork, adding depth to this marvelous print. The seasonal sensations of warmth and charm are wrapped within this meaningful Goshuin, ensuring that this winter feels sparkling and inviting for all who visit.

Limited Availability

These exclusive prints will be available from December 1, 2025, until February 28, 2026, while supplies last. During the New Year’s prayer festival from January 1 to 12, only limited edition Goshuin will be distributed, making it a unique opportunity for visitors.

The Historical Significance of Ryuusenji Temple

Ryuusenji Temple, with its 1200-year history, is renowned as a primary site for warding off misfortune and attracting good fortune in the Kanto region. This temple uniquely enshrines two statues of deities renowned for these blessings—something that cannot be found anywhere else in Japan. Alongside famous places like Kondo Yakujin Tokoji in Hyogo and Hiroshima's Daishoin Temple, Ryuusenji is counted among Japan's top three temples for these protective powers. Each year, visitors from all over Japan gather to pray, especially during the New Year ceremonies.
