Fusion Health Collaborates with Illinois to Upgrade Statewide Pharmacy System for Mental Health Facilities

Fusion Health Partners with Illinois Department of Human Services

Fusion Health, recognized as a leader in health technology solutions, has taken a significant step in enhancing public health services by forming a groundbreaking contract with the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS). This partnership aims to modernize the statewide pharmacy management system, a vital resource for medical facilities handling patients with intellectual disabilities and mental health challenges.

On October 16, 2025, Fusion Health announced this exciting new venture, which is poised to be a game-changer in the public health and hospital market. The company, having already established a solid reputation in correctional and behavioral health sectors, is now broadening its impact to include state-operated hospitals under IDHS.

Enhancing Patient Care Through Innovation

As part of this multi-year agreement, Fusion Health will implement its renowned CIPS Pharmacy Management System across 14 different IDHS facilities. This modern solution will serve to replace a decades-old pharmacy platform, thereby streamlining operations and significantly improving the quality of care for approximately 3,400 residents. The initiative not only marks a transition to more efficient pharmacy practices but also embodies Fusion Health's dedication to transforming healthcare delivery for underserved populations through technological innovation and compassionate care.

A Comprehensive Modernization Agenda

The project is set to replace an outdated collection of pharmacy applications that have been in use within IDHS’s residential divisions. By utilizing Fusion's suite of pharmacy management solutions—namely CIPS, CIPS Remote, and the sMARt platform—the project represents a holistic modernization effort. Managed by the Office of Clinical Operations and Pharmacy Support (OCAPS) alongside the Bureau of Pharmacy and Clinical Support Services (BPCSS), this initiative is designed to provide a secure, compliant, interoperable platform that enhances operational efficiency, ensures regulatory compliance, and facilitates advanced integrations which were previously out of reach.

According to Bryan Jakovcic, President and CEO of Fusion Health, “We are honored to be selected by the Illinois Department of Human Services for this critical modernization project. Replacing a pharmacy system that has been in place for decades is a complex undertaking that speaks to the trust IDHS has placed in our technology and our team.” Jakovcic further emphasized that the firm is committed to ensuring a smooth transition while delivering a robust solution that will enhance pharmacy services and ensure patient safety for years to come.

Navigating Complex Integrations

This extensive implementation will involve a variety of intricate integrations with key state systems, including the Inpatient Electronic Health Record (EHR), the Master Patient Index, and a range of pharmacy automation machines. A crucial aspect of the project entails the secure migration of a decade’s worth of patient medication data from the aging legacy platform.

This migration process will adhere to a meticulous analysis and validation protocol to guarantee the integrity of sensitive patient information. Fusion Health plans to utilize the secure Microsoft Azure Government Cloud environment to maintain the highest standards of security and compliance, which further underscores the seriousness with which they approach this monumental project.

Collaboration with Stakeholders for Seamless Rollout

Throughout the duration of the project, Fusion will work closely with IDHS stakeholders to ensure that the rollout of the new systems is efficient and minimizes disruption to patient care. The collaborative aspect will be vital in utilizing the joint expertise to provide a solution that meets the unique needs of the facilities involved.
