California REALTORS® Endorse Gov. Newsom's Support for Wildfire-Affected Homeowners
On January 24, 2025, the California Association of REALTORS® (C.A.R.) issued a statement emphasizing their support for Governor Gavin Newsom's recent legislative actions aimed at assisting homeowners impacted by the devastating wildfires in Southern California. This response follows the Governor's special session where over $2.5 billion was allocated for recovery efforts in the Los Angeles area.
C.A.R. expressed deep appreciation for the governor's commitment to expedite recovery processes through new legislation. This legislation augments Governor Newsom's previous executive orders designed to streamline the rebuilding process, which is crucial for communities still trying to recover from these catastrophic events. A significant portion of the newly allocated funds—$4 million—will directly aid in expediting reconstruction efforts in communities heavily affected by the wildfires.
Local governments that have been impacted will receive additional funding to enhance their planning review and building inspection capabilities, ensuring a swift approval process for housing construction during this critical recovery period.
Heather Ozur, President of C.A.R., welcomed the legislative measures as a necessary stride toward revitalizing affected neighborhoods. "Streamlining the rebuilding process, bolstering assistance for cities in distress, and providing further resources for inspections are vital steps in helping communities recover. Our goal is to facilitate construction and help people return to their homes as quickly as possible," she stated.
Moreover, the allocation of over $2.5 billion in disaster relief funding will greatly support ongoing emergency responses and recovery objectives. This funding is set to cover essential services such as debris removal, comprehensive post-fire assessments, and other key emergency operations aimed at safeguarding public safety and promoting recovery.
Ozur further pointed out that the special session exemplified a strong governmental response dedicated to implementing innovative policies that not only support those affected by the wildfires but also address the broader housing crisis affiliated with these natural disasters. "We are committed to working alongside the governor and the legislature to ensure that impactful investments reach those in need, allowing wildfire victims to rebuild their lives and homes," she declared.
As the C.A.R. leads the way in California's real estate landscape for nearly 120 years, it represents approximately 200,000 members dedicated to advancing professionalism within the industry. With headquarters located in Sacramento, the association has played a pivotal role in advocating for the interests of California homeowners and pushing for effective policy measures.
The support from C.A.R. underscores the importance of collaborative efforts among state officials, organizations, and community members as they work together to navigate recovery from one of the state's most challenging crises. This united front offers hope and resources to those devastated by the wildfires, ensuring pathways to rebuilding and regaining stability in their lives.
