Premium Charging Alliance Welcomes PowerX's EV Charging Network
In a significant development for electric vehicle (EV) owners in Japan, Volkswagen Japan, under the leadership of brand director Martin Zarge, has announced that the Premium Charging Alliance (PCA) will now include PowerX's EV charging stations starting from July 9, 2026. This strategic move marks an important step in enhancing the accessibility and convenience of EV charging across the country.
Overview of Premium Charging Alliance
The Premium Charging Alliance is a collaborative network focused on providing premium charging services tailored for EV owners from brands like Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche. To date, the network consists of over 360 charging locations across Japan, equipped with CHAdeMO format rapid chargers that deliver outputs ranging from 90 to 150 kW. The integration of PowerX's stations, which are located in approximately 50 locations nationwide, is set to further expand the PCA's already extensive network.
Enhanced Convenience with New Locations
With this new partnership, PowerX's charging stations will be available at diverse locations that cater to various charging needs. From bustling urban commercial centers to rest areas along major highways, EV owners will find it more convenient than ever to charge their vehicles, whether for daily errands or long-distance travel. The continuous growth of this charging network symbolizes a commitment to supporting the increasing number of EV users in Japan.
Future Expansion Plans
Looking ahead, the PCA aims to boost the number of PowerX EV charging stations accessible to its members, ensuring that convenience remains a top priority. As of June 2026, the PCA’s national charging network has grown to encompass 368 locations featuring 383 charging units, a remarkable increase since the service launched in October 2022. Furthermore, since April 1, 2026, PCA members have also gained access to Lexus Charging stations, enhancing interoperability and offering even more flexibility to EV owners.
Seamless User Experience through Existing App
One of the standout features of this partnership is the seamless accessibility of PowerX charging stations through the existing PCA app. EV owners from PCA member brands can easily locate and utilize PowerX charging stations without any additional steps. The app displays available stations on a map, and users can manage the entire process from charging and payment to billing within the application. This innovative approach ensures a smooth and comfortable charging experience, which is critical in supporting the growing adoption of electric vehicles.
Pricing Structure
Charging fees at PowerX's EV charging stations are aligned with PCA's pricing framework. For PCA monthly members, the fee is set at 65 yen per kWh, while per-use members will pay 95 yen per kWh, adhering to a pay-as-you-go system. This structured pricing approach is designed to offer flexibility and value to EV users, further encouraging the use of electric vehicles in Japan.
