Angel Yeast Celebrates Four Decades and Aims for Global Biotech Leadership

Angel Yeast's 40th Anniversary: A Step Towards Global Biotech Leadership

On October 19-20, 2026, Angel Yeast, one of the top manufacturers of yeast globally, commemorated its 40th anniversary by hosting the 2026 International Synthetic Biology Symposium and the Angel Group High-Quality Development Conference at its headquarters in Yichang, China. This significant event attracted over 500 key figures from the industry, including academicians, scholars, and representatives from around the world, demonstrating Angel Yeast’s commitment to leading in the biomanufacturing and synthetic biology sectors.

The symposium served as a platform for discussing cutting-edge biomanufacturing trends, innovations, and global collaboration within the supply chain. It was not just a celebration of Angel Yeast's past achievements but also a launchpad for future collaboration among global partners focused on biomanufacturing initiatives.

Reflecting on its history, Angel Yeast began as a humble pilot base for edible yeast and has evolved into the second-largest producer in the world by sales volume. Today, its products are exported to over 170 countries and regions, catering to more than 30,000 customers with a market share exceeding 20%. This growth showcases the company's successful strategy in maximizing innovation and operational efficiency.

In the realm of innovation, Angel Yeast stands out for its extensive industrial microbial strain bank. The organization has mastered crucial technologies in strain selection and fermentation processes, committing an impressive USD 149.8 million annually to research and development. With a team of over 1,500 researchers and collaborations with 70 international research institutes, the company continues to push the boundaries of yeast technology. To illustrate its dedication, Angel Yeast holds 534 authorized invention patents, with numerous scientific achievements recognized on an international level.

An important aspect of Angel Yeast’s operation is its expansive production and R&D network across multiple regions. The company has developed the largest yeast production facility in the world within its Egyptian plant, and a new facility in Indonesia is set to commence operations in early 2027. The company’s commitment to localization is evident as nearly 2,000 foreign staff work across its overseas factories, with a localization rate surpassing 95%.

Angel Yeast operates with an eye toward sustainability, building what it describes as a circular economy within its industrial chain. Raw materials are ethically sourced from agricultural processing, ensuring food health and safety while by-products contribute back to agriculture. With five National Green Factories and a zero-carbon factory, Angel Yeast is recognized with an Ecovis rating placing it within the top 15% globally.

Moreover, the company actively participates in formulating international standards, including the Codex Alimentarius standard for yeast products. This involvement helps in the coordinated global expansion of Angel Yeast’s brand and its technologies.

Looking to the future, Angel Yeast's Chairman, Xiong Tao, expressed strategic aims to further develop new synthetic biology technologies. The company plans to explore innovative avenues in future foods, biomedicine, enzyme catalysis, new materials, and agricultural microbiology. The vision is to establish a robust ‘biomanufacturing+’ industrial cluster while continuously enhancing its position within the high end of the value chain, with ambitions to grow into a leading name in biotechnology on a global scale.

The celebrations of Angel Yeast’s fortieth anniversary signify not just a milestone but a pivotal moment as the company gears up for rapid advancements in technology and partnerships aimed at redefining the landscape of the biotech industry.
