Thompson Thrift Breaks Ground on The Union at Fishers District
In a significant step for urban development, Thompson Thrift recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for The Union at Fishers District, the final installment of a $750 million master-planned project situated in the bustling suburb of Fishers, near Indianapolis. This ambitious development promises to enhance the local landscape with a blend of luxury residences, dynamic retail options, and Indiana's inaugural AC Hotel by Marriott.
Thompson Thrift, a well-regarded full-service real estate company, has been pivotal in various multifamily, mixed-use, and commercial projects across the nation. The managing partner Ashlee Boyd emphasized, "The Union at Fishers District epitomizes years of meticulous planning and teamwork. By merging top-tier office spaces, residential units, retail outlets, and hospitality components into one walkable location, we are crafting a thriving community that caters to today's lifestyle needs."
The groundbreaking event saw participation from local officials and community members, including Fishers' Mayor Scott Fadness, who lauded the project for its potential to enrich the city’s cultural and commercial fabric. Following the ceremony, attendees were treated to refreshments and networking opportunities with future tenants, including The Oakmont and Everbowl.
Located conveniently near Interstate 69 and 116th Street, this latest phase will see the construction of 57,000 square feet dedicated to retail, dining, and entertainment venues, alongside 70,000 square feet of Class A office space and a 135-room AC Hotel by Marriott. Exciting new tenants such as Everbowl, Racha Thai, and the wellness brand Sweathouz have already confirmed their presence at this vibrant center, alongside innovative dining options including Niku Sushi.Kitchen.Bar, Kitchen Social, and Piedra, Flavors of Mexico.
Ryan Menard, vice president of development at Thompson Thrift, shared his enthusiasm saying, "Fishers District is a hub for outstanding culinary experiences, and we are excited that The Union will enhance the local dining scene, creating a space for community gathering and enjoyment."
On the residential front, The Union Flats promises to offer modern, upscale living spaces integrated above ground-floor retail. Set to welcome new residents in late 2026, this community will feature 251 apartments designed with luxurious finishes and resort-style amenities, including a swimming pool, outdoor kitchen, and community grilling areas. Additional features are set to include a state-of-the-art fitness center, bike storage, dog park with agility equipment, and a pet spa.
Inside the apartments, residents can expect elegant finishes like quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, full-size washers and dryers, expansive walk-in closets, and energy-efficient lighting—a true indication of Thompson Thrift's commitment to quality.
As Mayor Scott Fadness noted, "This project showcases how thoughtfully designed development can significantly enhance both innovation and quality of life. With modern workspaces and elevated living standards, The Union aims to provide memorable experiences for both residents and visitors in our community."
Thompson Thrift's journey in the Fishers District began in 2015, and they were acknowledged with a Monumental Award from the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce in 2020 for their initial phase. When completed, the entire $750 million development will encompass 123 acres of multifamily units, hotels, office spaces, dining, shopping, and entertainment venues, interconnected by scenic walking paths, promoting an accessible and pedestrian-friendly environment.
Since its inception nearly four decades ago, Thompson Thrift has invested over $6 billion into diverse communities and has gained recognition as a reliable partner in developing high-quality multifamily and commercial projects across the Midwest, Southeast, and Southwest regions. Their latest achievement highlights their continuous commitment to enriching local areas through innovative real estate solutions.
