On May 15, 2026, Arkeus, a pioneering defense technology company, announced that it has successfully raised $18 million in Series A funding. This significant investment aims to bolster the company’s global expansion efforts and enhance manufacturing capabilities across the United States, Australia, and Europe. The funding round was primarily led by QIC Ventures, with additional participation from various U.S. and international investors.

Arkeus is renowned for developing advanced AI-powered sensing systems that act as the ‘eyes and brains’ for autonomous platforms. These technologies are currently in use by the U.S. Department of War and the Australian Department of Defence, addressing an increasing demand for sophisticated military solutions.

The invested capital will enable Arkeus to considerably scale its core technology, with the aim of dominating the autonomous systems market. Notably, their flagship product, the Hyperspectral Optical Radar, has achieved multiple defense contracts designed specifically for autonomous-enabled operations. This radar system is the first of its kind in Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities and is designed to meet the growing needs of military operations.

In response to the escalating demand for real-time ISR from the Pentagon, Arkeus is tasked with delivering its AI-powered hyperspectral sensors quickly and efficiently. These systems have proven themselves in competitive evaluations, demonstrating the ability to identify targets from distances up to eight times further than current optical systems, particularly in challenging visual conditions.

Simon Olsen, the CEO and co-founder of Arkeus, stated, “Machines can't act autonomously if they can't truly perceive their environment. In the moments that matter most, systems are still flying blind.” He continued to highlight issues in the existing framework where data is collected but not comprehended in time to act. Olsen asserted that the evolution of autonomy rests upon the enhancement of perception. “Decision-making is moving closer to the edge, and that requires a completely different approach to sensing and autonomy,” he explained.

Despite the hefty investments in drones and other autonomous systems worldwide, many continue to depend on human interpretation and external processing for decision-making. Arkeus aims to remediate these limitations with their core technology that allows for multiple layers of visual data capture at once. This innovative system empowers AI to detect, classify, and track various objects, functioning optimally under any circumstance—day or night—even in degraded and contested environments where traditional sensors are ineffective.

With a robust pipeline of upcoming defense projects and an expanding international market, Arkeus is well-positioned to establish its systems as a foundational aspect of the future autonomous operations landscape.

The $18 million Series A funding round has seen participation from notable investors such as R+VC, Folklore Ventures, and DYNE Ventures, in addition to ongoing support from existing investors like Main Sequence Ventures, Salus Ventures, and Beaten Zone. This strategic investment places Arkeus at the forefront of defense technology innovation.

Founded in 2020 by Olsen and CTO Dr. Jonathan Nebauer, Arkeus has set out to tackle the perception challenges faced by autonomous systems operating in intricate environments. Olsen draws from over 15 years of expertise in defense and autonomy technologies, including senior leadership positions at Sentient Vision Systems and various sectors within Australian uncrewed systems. Dr. Nebauer, boasting a background in aerospace engineering and optical sensing, holds a PhD in Aerospace Engineering, which underscores the technical expertise Arkeus brings to the table.
