Carnival Corporation Celebrates Successful Pier Expansion at Celebration Key in The Bahamas

Carnival Corporation's Pier Expansion at Celebration Key

Carnival Corporation, the world's leading cruise firm, has successfully finished an exciting expansion of its pier at Celebration Key, located on Grand Bahama Island. This landmark development adds two new berths, allowing the port to accommodate up to four cruise ships simultaneously. The revamped pier will enable the island to welcome more than 13,000 guests each day, effectively enhancing the operational capacity of this popular destination.

The pier expansion builds upon the original two-berth facility that opened in July 2025, allowing Carnival to double its capacity well ahead of schedule. According to the company, this extension will provide operational flexibility, accommodating approximately 200 more ship calls and an additional 700,000 visitors each year. Josh Weinstein, CEO of Carnival Corporation, remarked on this achievement, describing Celebration Key as a centerpiece of their Paradise Collection, a carefully curated set of destinations designed to redefine the Caribbean vacation experience.

Weinstein emphasized that every element of Celebration Key, from its stunning white sand beaches to the Caribbean's largest freshwater lagoons and five unique experience portals, aims to deliver unforgettable memories for visitors. The early completion of the pier's extension supports the growing demand for travel to this idyllic Bahamian destination, allowing Carnival to welcome even more tourists sooner than anticipated.

Since its inception, Celebration Key has quickly emerged as a key component in Carnival's Caribbean operations, with 20 Carnival Cruise Line ships currently operating from ten different U.S. homeports. Starting from September 2026, guests can expect three to four cruise ships at the destination on a routine basis. Additionally, Princess Cruises and AIDA will begin to participate in the rotation, showcasing Celebration Key's role as a central hub in the Carnival Corporation's Caribbean adventure portfolio.

The expansion is also a tremendous boost for the local economy in the Bahamas. Glenys Hanna Martin, Minister of Tourism, acknowledged the investment by stressing the significance of such developments. She stated that they not only enhance tourism but also create tangible job opportunities, benefiting Bahamian families and businesses economically.

Ginger Moxey, Minister for Grand Bahama, reflected on the impressive economic potential that the pier expansion signifies. She noted that each ship's arrival enables local entrepreneurs and small businesses to thrive, providing a steady influx of customers and enhancing the community's resilience in the tourism sector. This investment speaks volumes about Carnival's commitment to the Bahamas and the sustainable growth of its economy.

As Celebration Key marks its one-year anniversary on July 19, 2026, it is projected to have welcomed around 2.5 million guests. With this latest expansion, estimates indicate that approximately 3.5 million visitors will be accommodated in the subsequent year, generating substantial long-term economic benefits for the local communities. A recent economic impact study conducted by Tourism Economics highlights that this development is expected to create 2,500 new jobs, $3.2 billion in government revenue, and a remarkable $9.7 billion boost to the GDP over the next two decades.

Celebration Key is one of seven exclusive Caribbean destinations included in Carnival Corporation's Paradise Collection, alongside locations such as RelaxAway Half Moon Cay, Isla Tropicale (Roatan), and Amber Cove (Dominican Republic), among others. This impressive array of destinations offers unparalleled guest experiences, reinforcing Carnival's leadership position in the growing cruise market.

With its commitment to providing unique travel experiences, Carnival Corporation continues to lead in the cruise industry, embracing the allure of the Caribbean and enhancing the beauty of the Bahamas. The expansion of Celebration Key’s pier is a testament to the positive trajectory of both Carnival Corporation and the Bahamas as prime destinations for travelers seeking unforgettable adventures in idyllic surroundings.
