Rist's Recent Triumph at Kaggle
In a remarkable achievement for the Rist Kaggle Team, Takoi Hirokazu, a Kaggle Grandmaster, has led his team to seize the bronze medal in the Kaggle competition titled
'ROGII - Wellbore Geology Prediction.' The competition, organized by ROGII, a digital technology firm focused on the oil and gas industry, aimed to automate the drilling process by accurately predicting geological structures along horizontal wells using machine learning models.
The competition took place from May 5 to August 5, 2026, attracting an astonishing number of participants —
6,956 individuals across
6,125 teams. Out of this competitive pool, Takoi’s team managed to secure an impressive
3rd place and was awarded a coveted
gold medal for their outstanding performance.
Insights from Takoi Hirokazu
Takoi reflected on the challenges posed by the competition, mentioning that the task involved estimating geological positions based on sensor data from horizontal wells. He highlighted that the data was fraught with measurement noise and missing values, with varying trends across different wells. To overcome these obstacles, he meticulously analyzed the structure of the data and designed a probabilistic model that specifically addressed the noise present. This approach, he believes, significantly contributed to their final ranking.
He utilized coding agents to assist with implementation and ideation but emphasized the importance of not solely relying on their outputs. Instead, he took a more hands-on approach, incorporating validations and refining his ideas alongside his team members. Despite the fluctuating nature of evaluation metrics, which often depended on a few wells, the collaboration and continuous improvements with his teammates led to their eventual success.
About Kaggle
Kaggle stands as the world’s largest data analysis platform, boasting over
33 million registered users. It serves as a hub where users, called Kaggler, compete in various data analysis challenges presented by companies and organizations in a competition format. Participants are ranked based on their performance, with titles such as
Kaggle Grandmaster,
Kaggle Master, and
Expert reflecting their level of expertise.
The title of
Kaggle Grandmaster is particularly prestigious, with only
405 individuals worldwide achieving this rank. It signifies exceptional prowess in the fields of AI engineering and data science.
Rist Kaggle Team
Rist pioneered the recruitment of top-performing Kaggler by introducing a special hiring program in 2020, which led to the formation of the
Rist Kaggle Team — a group comprised of elite AI engineers and data scientists. Currently, the team includes
8 Kaggle Grandmasters and
3 Kaggle Masters, all of whom are engaged in delivering advanced data analysis solutions and product development utilizing high-level AI techniques.
