Ecopetrol and Oil Workers Union Finalize Agreement on New Collective Labor Deal

Ecopetrol and the USO Finalize Collective Bargaining Agreement

On June 13, 2026, Ecopetrol S.A., the largest company in Colombia, successfully concluded its collective bargaining process with the Oil Workers Union (Unión Sindical Obrera - USO), a leading union representing its employees. This agreement marks a significant milestone, establishing a new collective bargaining contract set to govern labor conditions for the next six years, beginning from January 1, 2026.

This extensive negotiation process, which unfolded over more than 990 sessions, was characterized by a spirit of dialogue, mutual respect, and collaborative efforts among all parties involved. In addition to the agreement with USO, Ecopetrol also entered into 66 final agreements with various other participating labor unions, reflecting its commitment to engaging with a broad spectrum of stakeholder interests.

The agreements reached emphasize notable enhancements both to working conditions and employee benefits. Key elements include:
  • - Improved health and education benefits for workers and their families.
  • - Initiatives aimed at promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace.
  • - Increased social investment in the communities in which the company operates.

These improvements not only prioritize employee well-being but also aim to foster stronger relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring that the interests of all parties are considered and respected. The measures align with Ecopetrol's guiding principles of operational efficiency, cost discipline, and reasonableness in its business approach.

In the upcoming days, the company plans to formalize and file the agreement with Colombia's Ministry of Labor, following which joint sessions will be held across the country to communicate the terms of the agreements to employees. While the timeline for these procedures remains uncertain, Ecopetrol emphasizes the importance of transparency and communication throughout these processes.

Ecopetrol is a key player in the energy sector of the Americas, employing over 19,000 individuals and being responsible for more than 60% of Colombia's hydrocarbon production. The company operates across various segments, including transportation, logistics, refining, petrochemicals, and gas distribution. Furthermore, in response to changes in the energy market dynamics, Ecopetrol has expanded its operations internationally, tapping into strategic basins across the continent and enhancing its footprint in energy transmission and telecommunications.

The successful completion of this negotiation reflects the hard work and dedication of all employees and union representatives involved. Their collective efforts have not only helped in finalizing the agreement but have also reinforced the company’s commitment to a fair and equitable workplace.

As Colombia's largest integrated energy firm, Ecopetrol aims to balance its growth and sustainability objectives with the needs of its workforce. This agreement stands as a testament to the company's approach toward fostering a positive working environment where employees can thrive, ensuring a sustainable future for both the company and the communities it serves.
