BAUHAUS and XYZ Robotics Team Up to Revolutionize Warehouse Automation

Transforming Warehouse Operations: BAUHAUS and XYZ Robotics Partnership

In a groundbreaking move for the retail industry, BAUHAUS has entered into a strategic partnership with XYZ Robotics, a leader in mobile manipulation robotics. This collaboration aims to fully automate the goods receiving process at BAUHAUS's central warehouse located in Krefeld, Germany, marking a significant advancement in operational efficiency and workflow optimization.

The innovative automation solution is powered by the RockyOne and RockyOne SE robots, which are designed to streamline the entire inbound logistics process—from unloading shipping containers to preparing shelves for retail. What sets this system apart is its ability to handle a diverse range of cartons, which present unique challenges in shape, weight, and stacking. Traditionally, such complexities have posed obstacles for conventional automation systems.

A Game-Changer for Logistics

BAUHAUS operates more than 290 specialty centers across 19 countries, managing thousands of inbound shipments daily for over 10,000 stock-keeping units (SKUs). With the deployment of XYZ Robotics’ technology, the Krefeld warehouse can now effectively manage the unloading of containers, making use of a barcode scanning system for real-time carton identification and sorting. Subsequently, the robots arrange loose cartons into stable, storage-ready pallets tailored to customer specifications.

This automation is transformative, alleviating the physical toll on employees often associated with manual container unloading. By tackling repetitive lifting in challenging conditions, the likelihood of injury and employee turnover is reduced. Instead of engaging in strenuous tasks, operators can now focus on monitoring the robotic systems via a user-friendly tablet interface. The ease of use requires minimal training, ensuring a smooth transition to this new way of working.

Torsten Winter, Vice President of Operations (Warehousing & Transport) at BAUHAUS AG, noted, “Since the system was implemented, it has operated reliably around the clock without the need for manual intervention. Our staff is now able to concentrate on more valuable aspects of our operations, and we are already considering additional applications of this technology across our network.”

Expanding European Footprint

After the success of the Krefeld implementation, XYZ Robotics is set to broaden its presence in Europe, targeting more warehouse and distribution centers for automation opportunities. Local teams will provide comprehensive support throughout the entire lifecycle of the robotics systems, ensuring that operations run efficiently and effectively.
