BIOTECHWORKS-H2 and Elsahal Group: A Green Initiative in Nigeria
On November 5, 2025,
BIOTECHWORKS-H2, headquartered in Shibuya, Tokyo, formally entered into a strategic partnership with
Elsahal Group Ltd., a major conglomerate based in Nigeria. This partnership revolves around the innovative
Waste-to-Hydrogen project known as
'ZERO WASTE'. The initial phase will kick off in Kano State, with plans to process 3,500 tons of waste daily, marking a significant step towards promoting sustainable energy solutions in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Rationale Behind the Partnership
As Africa's most populous nation, Nigeria's population exceeds 200 million and is grappling with rapid urbanization, leading to increased waste production. Unfortunately, the necessary infrastructure for waste management has not kept pace. Kano State serves as Nigeria's largest commercial and industrial hub in the North, home to around 14 million people, and faces severe challenges in waste disposal and energy supply.
Elsahal Group brings to the table its subsidiary,
Sahal Power and Renewable Energy Ltd., which focuses on energy and infrastructure projects within Nigeria. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) allows both companies to leverage BIOTECHWORKS-H2's cutting-edge waste hydrogenation technology and their advanced digital traceability platform,
REBORN, to jointly expand the
ZERO WASTE model throughout Nigeria and eventually across Sub-Saharan Africa.

He emphasized the need for genuine circular economies in Africa, seeking to prevent the continent from becoming a graveyard for developed nations' greenwashing initiatives. This collaboration with Elsahal Group represents a significant first step toward that vision.
With the Kano project poised to become the largest undertaking for BIOTECHWORKS-H2, this initiative is expected to accelerate the deployment of the
ZERO WASTE model across Sub-Saharan Africa.
