Morgan's and YMCA Launch Groundbreaking Project for Inclusive Fitness Center
Morgan's and YMCA Transforming Fitness Accessibility
In a significant milestone for community health, Morgan's and the YMCA of Greater San Antonio have officially broken ground on an innovative Ultra-Accessible™, fully-inclusive fitness center. This groundbreaking initiative aims not only to redefine what fitness means but to make health and wellness opportunities equitable for all members of the community. The vision articulated by Gordon Hartman, Founder and Board Chair of Morgan's, encapsulates the spirit of this project: "Our vision is to create a fitness environment where no one feels left out."
The new facility is designed to offer a wide range of specialized fitness equipment, ensuring that everyone—from beginners to advanced athletes—can pursue their personal health and fitness goals, including those with disabilities. According to Louis Lopez, the CEO of YMCA of Greater San Antonio, this center will offer everyone a chance to participate fully, stating, "This partnership allows us to continue learning and moving together as we discover what true inclusivity in fitness looks like".
This collaboration goes beyond mere fitness; it aims to foster a sense of belonging and connection among all community members. Dr. Brent Fields, CEO of Morgan's, highlighted the importance of inclusivity in the project, asserting that both organizations share a mission focused on creating a brighter future for everyone. The upcoming Hartman Family YMCA will be a welcoming space tailored for individuals of all ages and abilities, promoting an improved quality of life through engagement in health and wellness activities. The Y is set to offer a variety of individual and group exercise programs, enabling participation across a vast spectrum of personal wellness journeys.
Located on David Edwards Drive, directly across from Morgan's Sports complex, the center will be one of the 12 YMCA locations in the Greater San Antonio area. Construction is expected to begin shortly, with completion targeted for late 2026, marking an exciting new chapter as the YMCA prepares to commemorate its 150th anniversary in 2026.
