Odisha and GFTN Team Up to Launch a Global FinTech Hub in Bhubaneswar

A New Era for FinTech in Odisha

The Government of Odisha is embarking on an exciting journey to position itself as a leading player in the financial technology (FinTech) arena, partnering with the Singapore-based Global Finance & Technology Network (GFTN). Set to officially launch the Integrated Global Financial Technology Capability Hub (I-GFTCH) on August 21, 2025, this initiative signifies a monumental step towards establishing Bhubaneswar as a crucial link in the global FinTech ecosystem.

The Vision Behind the Hub

The I-GFTCH aims to harness Odisha's potential and integrate it with global FinTech trends. This pioneering hub will not only promote local innovation but will also facilitate worldwide learning and collaboration, thereby bringing a wealth of resources and opportunities to the region. By attracting key players in finance and technology, Odisha is set to elevate its status on the global map of digital finance.

Empowering Youth through Education

As part of this initiative, Odisha has announced a partnership with the National University of Singapore (NUS) to offer the Asian Institute of Digital Finance (NUS-AIDF) Certificate in FinTech and InsurTech. This hybrid program, which combines online learning with intensive on-campus modules, aims to equip over 7,000 students from across Odisha with essential skills pertinent to the FinTech industry. By focusing on practical knowledge in technology, regulations, and business operations, the course seeks to prepare a new generation of graduates for successful careers in one of the most dynamic sectors of the global economy.

Hosting Global Forums

Further solidifying its position as a FinTech hub, Bhubaneswar will host the Black Swan Summit (BSS) India in early 2026. This summit serves as a platform for technologists, policymakers, and innovators to exchange ideas on the future of FinTech, including emerging technologies such as AI, quantum computing, and digital infrastructure. With events like BSS, Odisha aims to create avenues for local talent to connect with international experts, thus fostering an environment of innovation and investment.

A Comprehensive Approach to FinTech Growth

Odisha's strategy, referred to as Global Learning Odisha, encompasses a well-rounded approach to catalyze growth in the FinTech sector. The initiative involves establishing a Centre of Excellence dedicated to driving digital innovation and supporting startups through incubation, mentorship, and masterclasses. Moreover, GFTN’s expertise will be integral in nurturing a vibrant FinTech ecosystem tailored to meet local needs and global standards.

Building an Inclusive Financial Landscape

The I-GFTCH is not just about technology; it is also about inclusivity and accessibility. As the partnership progresses, Odisha is committed to fostering an inclusive environment that supports marginalised communities and promotes equitable opportunities in financial services. By leveraging collaborations with GFTN and other educational institutions, there aims to be a concerted effort to bridge the gap between technology and accessibility in finance.

Governmental Support and Future Outlook

The government of Odisha, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Mohan Charan Majhi, is significantly invested in this FinTech initiative. Minister Shri Dr Mukesh Mahaling emphasized that by collaborating with world-class institutions like NUS-AIDF, they are setting the stage for local youth to thrive in the global digital economy valued at approximately $1.8 trillion. This mission is further supported by the Union Ministry of Education and the Skill Development Institute of Odisha, advocating for a robust infrastructure to sustain educational excellence.

In conclusion, the I-GFTCH initiative represents a transformative leap into the future of FinTech for Odisha. It promises to create a powerful ecosystem that not only enhances local capabilities but also opens doors to international collaboration and innovation. With visionary leadership and a comprehensive strategy, Odisha stands on the brink of becoming a global player in the ever-evolving financial technology landscape.
