JA Solar Showcases Landmark Solar Energy Project at Borussia Dortmund's SIGNAL IDUNA PARK

JA Solar, a globally trusted partner in green energy, recently held a new iteration of its Power Talk webinar series, focusing on a milestone solar energy project at the SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, home of Borussia Dortmund. This marked a significant step in the deployment of photovoltaic technology across large-scale urban infrastructures.

Certified by RID as the world's most powerful photovoltaic system on a stadium roof, this project features over 11,000 sleek, full-black JA Solar modules. It produces more than 4 GWh of clean electricity annually, effectively reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1,700 tons each year. The installation showcases how high-performance solar solutions can be successfully integrated into iconic sites while adhering to rigorous architectural, safety, and operational requirements.

The webinar's speakers provided a comprehensive overview of the project's journey from conception to commissioning, emphasizing the importance of preliminary feasibility studies, long-term planning, and the close collaboration among stakeholders. They discussed the logistical and technical challenges encountered in one of Europe’s busiest stadiums, where construction schedules had to coordinate with a full calendar of both sporting and non-sporting events, all while conforming to stringent safety standards and variable weather conditions.

Beyond energy production, this installation represents a firm commitment to sustainability. With millions of visitors and viewers per year, SIGNAL IDUNA PARK serves as an unparalleled showcase for promoting the energy transition, illustrating how professional sports can actively support climate goals.

For JA Solar, this project sets a benchmark in delivering photovoltaic solutions for complex and prestigious environments. It highlights the company's ability to provide reliable products and high-performance modules suitable for demanding applications, thereby opening up new opportunities for integrating solar energy into public infrastructures and sports venues across Europe and beyond.

The webinar featured notable contributions from Petra Zelenická, the marketing and market research head for Europe at JA Solar; Florian Demnitz, the energy manager at Borussia Dortmund; and Christoph Kielhorn, project manager for PMO Battery Development at RWE. The session was moderated by Gianluca Michieletto, JA Solar's marketing and social media manager.
