POLA Unveils Innovative Uniforms for Beauty Coordinators
In a bid to elevate customer experiences, POLA, headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, is launching a new uniform design for its beauty coordinators across department stores, airports, and international locations. Beginning September 1, 2025, the company aims to embody its principle of "Science. Art. Love." through this innovative uniform, which merges artistic sensibility with scientific knowledge. The design will first be revealed at the Isetan Shinjuku store from August 13 to August 19, 2025, during the special event -Timeless possibilities-.
Design Concept: Artistic Scientists
The new uniform reflects the ethos of POLA by presenting beauty coordinators as artistic scientists—a role that not only sells beauty products but also delivers unexpected delight and emotional resonance to customers. By leveraging unique artistic creativity alongside scientific insights, the beauty coordinators will suggest more enriching experiences beyond mere aesthetics.
Sustainable Design Techniques
A key feature of the new uniform is its sustainable design, crafted to minimize textile waste. Clothing patterns are cut from a single piece of fabric, ensuring that no extra material is discarded—akin to origami techniques that preserve every inch of cloth. This approach reduces fabric loss by about 10% compared to traditional methods. Integrating the Japanese concepts of "folding," "layering," and "wrapping," the design beautifully marries functionality and artistic flair.
Introducing Creative Director Yuta Ishikawa
Yuta Ishikawa, a renowned figure in the fashion industry, takes the creative helm of this initiative. His extensive background includes working with ISSEY MIYAKE, where he was involved with Paris collections, and later with NAOKI TAKIZAWA DESIGN, specializing in bespoke garments for the Imperial Household. In 2023, Ishikawa established his own company, ISHIKAWAYA, to offer innovative creative services for domestic and international clients.
Preview Event at Isetan Shinjuku
The unveiling of the new uniforms will coincide with the exclusive -Timeless possibilities- event at the Isetan Shinjuku store, occurring from August 13 to August 19, 2025. This event offers attendees an early look at the new B.A. art collection, as well as the chance to experience the innovative uniform firsthand, along with a special commemorative art scarf designed by floral artist Hiroshi Azuma. The scarf celebrates the beauty of life through pleated fabric featuring Azuma's floral artwork, showcasing a minimalistic design that gives a three-dimensional representation of the blossoms.
