HONU's Solution for Persistent Perfume Odors in Hotel Rooms
As hospitality evolves, so does the challenge of maintaining a fresh environment in hotel and ryokan rooms. Beginning on August 1, 2026, HONU Co., Ltd., based in Akasaka, Minato, Tokyo and managed by CEO Kenichi Uchida, will officially offer a specialized service aimed at combating persistent perfume odors in guest accommodations.
A Growing Problem
In recent years, fragrance products have become increasingly durable, engineered to last from morning until night. Technology that encapsulates scents allows for a gradual release over time; this feature is also found in laundry detergents and fabric softeners. While these prolonged fragrances can enhance palatability, they present a significant challenge for hotel environments, as previous methods of ventilation and standard cleaning are no longer sufficient to expel these lingering scents.
The Core Areas Affected
Through extensive experience, we have identified three primary areas within guest rooms that harbor stubborn odors:
1. The entrance area just inside the door.
2. The carpet.
3. Around hangers and within closets.
Among these, the area surrounding hangers tends to be overlooked, leading to immediate fragrance detection when the door opens. Notably, our findings indicate that such odors do not spread to adjacent rooms or hallways; it is a localized issue inherent to the individual guest room in question.
Two-Day Process for Effective Resolution
Step-by-Step Treatment Plan
The procedure lasts over two days. On the first day, we conduct a thorough assessment to identify the sources of odors, followed by the cleaning process which takes approximately six hours per room. After this, the air conditioning system will run overnight. The following morning, we will reassess the room's fragrance levels, and if necessary, conduct additional treatments to ensure successful odor elimination. This careful approach is critical as fragrance removal can be notably complex.
Importance of Timely Action
Higher-priced rooms tend to have a greater risk of developing unpleasant odors. Additionally, the financial implications of delaying treatment are significant; every additional day a room remains out of service due to odor issues translates directly into lost revenue. By addressing the fragrance challenge quickly, hotels can avoid the cumulative losses associated with prolonged odor presence in guest rooms.
Proven Track Record
As of June 2026, HONU has successfully completed over 6,000 projects focused on guest room non-smoking procedures. Out of these, approximately 30 were specifically designed to combat perfume odors. Our clientele spans city hotels, business hotels, and ryokans, highlighting the versatility and effectiveness of our services. Please note that our fragrance odor treatment is priced separately from regular non-smoking initiatives and room refresh procedures. Initial inquiries are always welcome.
