ARINC Teamsters Achieve Landmark Contract
On May 15, 2025, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters announced a momentous victory for radio operators and field service technicians at ARINC, a subsidiary of RTX/Raytheon. This group of 120 dedicated professionals has overwhelmingly ratified a three-year contract that encompasses substantial enhancements in wages, benefits, and overall working conditions.
Major Contract Highlights
The new agreement lays out an impressive
20% wage increase over the contract's duration. Moreover, it includes annual increases in pension benefits and improved healthcare coverage, ensuring the well-being of employees and their families. With the introduction of a new wage scale, all Teamsters at ARINC will have a clear trajectory toward higher pay.
In a significant move that reflects the importance of work-life balance, the contract also allows employees to request personal days off on more holidays, notably during Thanksgiving and Christmas. These changes signify a stronger commitment to the workforce's needs and acknowledgment of the critical role they play in ensuring safety in the aviation sector.
Dave Saucedo, the Below-the-Wing Director of the Teamsters Airline Division and Chairman of the ARINC Teamsters National Negotiating Committee, emphasized the importance of this contract, stating, “ARINC Teamsters keep passengers safe in some of the most isolating and dangerous environments in the air, and now they have a contract that accurately reflects the value of their work.”
The Fight for Fairness
The journey to this contract was not without its challenges. Back in November, ARINC Teamsters voted overwhelmingly—94%—to authorize a strike if a fair agreement was not promptly reached. This overwhelming show of solidarity among members contributed to the success of the negotiations.
Genene Martinez, a radio operator at ARINC for 14 years and a Teamsters Local 986 shop steward, declared, “This is the best contract I've seen in my 14 years at ARINC. This contract would not be possible without the solidarity of every Teamster at ARINC. From the huge raise in pay to better health care, this is an amazing victory for us and our families.” Her words encapsulate the collective spirit and determination that fueled this negotiation.
The Role of ARINC Teamsters
The responsibilities of ARINC Teamsters are paramount in maintaining aviation safety. They oversee civilian and military air traffic control across international oceanic airspace, assisting U.S. air traffic control within high-traffic zones. Their expertise ensures the safe passage of aircraft, directly contributing to the operational efficiency of air travel.
A Union with Legacy
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters has a long-standing history, founded in 1903, representing over 1.3 million working individuals across the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. The recent contract ratification at ARINC serves as a testament to the power of collective bargaining and the ongoing fight for workers’ rights.
