The previous Tanabe City hall was situated in a zone vulnerable to tsunamis and flooding along the coast, posing significant safety concerns due to its aging structure. The new city hall officially opened in May 2024.

Before Schneider Electric’s involvement, the server room relied on a traditional cooling methodology that required power comparable to everyday operations, which would impose a significant strain during a disaster when backup generation was needed. To optimize both energy consumption and cooling efficiency, Schneider Electric introduced their innovative High-Availability Cooling System (HACS).

The HACS works by enclosing the IT racks, effectively capturing warm air and preventing heat re-circulation. This approach is aided by specialized equipment, including the InRow™ cooling systems capable of local cooling and the NetShelter™ racks designed to enhance operational efficiency. The combination of these technologies allows for an unprecedented cooling efficiency that surpasses conventional methods of cooling an entire room.

Additionally, Schneider Electric installed two Symmetra™ PX three-phase UPS systems, separating their roles between providing emergency power from the main electricity supply and maintaining operation during outages via backup generators. This strategic division not only ensures redundancy but also facilitates centralized management of power supply to numerous devices spread across various floors, significantly simplifying operations and promoting efficiency.
