THE PHAGE Welcomes Eiryo Kawakami as Chief Scientific Officer
THE PHAGE, a forward-thinking company based in Shibuya, Tokyo, has announced the appointment of Eiryo Kawakami as its new Chief Scientific Officer effective May 2025. The company, led by CEO Shohei Tokunaga, is committed to building a society driven by proposals based on biological needs.
Eiryo Kawakami's Appointment as CSO
Eiryo Kawakami is renowned for his expertise in data analysis in the medical field, specifically focusing on early detection and prediction models for diseases. With extensive experience in leveraging multi-facility clinical data and lifestyle data, he has been at the forefront of developing and implementing high-accuracy algorithms. His work particularly emphasizes chronic diseases, including diabetes, where he has contributed to multiple public research projects that bridge the gap between social implementation and clinical practice.
As THE PHAGE's new CSO, Kawakami will work towards enhancing the accuracy of blood sugar fluctuation predictions and lifestyle risk scores, thereby accelerating the design and implementation of products suitable for medical environments.
A Commitment to Health
In a statement regarding his new role, Kawakami expressed his deep connection to the vision of THE PHAGE: “I resonate deeply with THE PHAGE's mission to realize personalized healthcare through the analysis of biological information and lifestyle behaviors. I am honored to be part of the challenge of creating a foundation for chronic disease prevention and management by connecting technology and the medical field.”
Collaboration with Chiba University
With Kawakami's involvement, THE PHAGE has embarked on a collaborative research project with Chiba University. This initiative focuses on constructing a foundational model using Japan's first continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data and developing new algorithms aimed at stratifying risks related to lifestyle diseases. The research aims to facilitate the social implementation of AI agents capable of proposing optimized preventive actions tailored to individuals, enhancing the precision and early detection of lifestyle disease indicators.
Moving forward, THE PHAGE intends to improve model accuracy based on real-world data and promote external validation through partnerships with academic institutions and large cohorts, ensuring a multi-faceted approach tailored for clinical application.
