Supporting Underrepresented Beauty Founders: The LIFT Beauty Accelerator
In a move to empower emerging talent within the beauty industry, Rare Beauty Brands, the parent company of notable names such as Patchology and Kate Somerville Skincare, has reopened applications for the LIFT Beauty Accelerator. Launched back in 2021, this initiative, now in its third iteration, aims to support underrepresented founders by providing critical resources such as funding, mentorship, and retail opportunities.
A Partnership with Purpose
Teaming up with JCPenney, the LIFT Beauty Accelerator serves as a platform where underrepresented voices in the beauty sector can thrive. Lisa Green, Vice President of Division Merchandise Manager for Beauty and Salon at JCPenney, emphasizes the company's commitment, stating, "The LIFT Beauty Accelerator program enables JCPenney to discover and champion the next generation of beauty brand founders. We look forward to learning more about these brands and empowering their founders with the resources, connections, and guidance they need to succeed to help shape the future of the industry."
What’s New in 2026?
This year's accelerator promises several benefits for selected founders:
- - Non-Dilutive Funding: Each winner will receive $10,000 in grant funding, ensuring that talents can invest in their brand without the pressure of giving up equity.
- - Retail Pitch Opportunity: Winners will have the chance to present their ideas directly to JCPenney, potentially gaining distribution for their products in stores or online.
- - Executive Mentorship: Participants will benefit from personalized support and guidance from industry experts associated with Rare Beauty Brands.
- - In-Kind Services Worth Over $20,000: This includes claims testing by The Benchmark Company, quality packaging support from Consolidated Design West, and consulting services to validate brand claims.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
Founders interested in applying must meet specific eligibility requirements:
- - Be at least 18 years old and from an underrepresented background in the beauty industry.
- - Own a U.S. incorporated brand that's in the early stages of development—such as skincare, cosmetics, or haircare—with limited distribution and no institutional funding, generating less than $1M in revenue.
- - Their products should be in at least the prototype phase; however, service-based businesses are not eligible.
The selection will be based on several criteria, including:
1.
Compelling Founder Story: A strong commitment to the brand’s mission can set applicants apart.
2.
Product Innovation: Demonstrated early traction or engagement with customers is essential.
3.
Business Model: A scalable model with a clear go-to-market strategy is a must.
