Global Industry Leaders Unite at INC Congress
The International Nut and Dried Fruit Council (INC) held its flagship event from May 8 to 10, 2025, in the picturesque setting of Mallorca, Spain. This significant gathering brought together over 1,520 professionals from 73 nations, showcasing the global importance of the nut and dried fruit industry.
During this congress, participants engaged in insightful discussions, sharing vital knowledge and innovations that shape the future of the sector. Preliminary findings from roundtable discussions indicate a steady trajectory for global tree nut production, projected to maintain around 6 million metric tons for the 2025/26 season. This figure mirrors the previous year's volume, with specific growth anticipated in macadamias (9%), walnuts (6%), and almonds (2%). Additionally, global peanut production is expected to increase by 2% year-on-year, reaching about 51.5 million MT.
However, the industry faces notable challenges, including erratic weather conditions that affect crop yields, price pressures, and uncertainty surrounding tariffs. Moreover, there is an escalating consumer demand for healthy, sustainable, and affordable food options, as well as a growing interest in clean labels, traceability, and eco-conscious packaging.
A pivotal moment of the congress was the introduction of the INC Sustainability Certification. This initiative, presented by INC Executive Director Goretti Guasch, is aimed at members of the INC and is designed to reinforce verified sustainability efforts while enhancing transparency throughout the supply chain. This certification is vital as it aligns with the rising expectations of both consumers and retailers, emphasizing the industry’s commitment to sustainability.
The congress also featured an impressive keynote address by Toni Nadal, the former coach of tennis superstar Rafa Nadal. He shared insights on cultivating a champion's mindset, underscoring the significance of resilience and personal growth in overcoming adversity. Attendees also benefited from the Nutrition Research Seminar, which presented scientific findings that support the health advantages associated with nuts and dried fruits.
