Dive into the Grand Tenjin Matsuri: Special Viewing Opportunities Await
Osaka is gearing up for one of its most prestigious summer festivals,
Tenjin Matsuri, scheduled for
July 25, 2026. Celebrated as one of Japan's three major festivals, this event will feature around
100 boats participating in a stunning procession along the river, complemented by
3,000 fireworks lighting up the sky. With approximately
1.3 million visitors each year, Tenjin Matsuri is renowned as Osaka's largest summer festival, drawing locals and tourists alike.
Exclusive Viewing Options
JTB Corporation has announced the availability of
special viewing seats and
exclusive boat experiences for festival-goers wishing to witness the grandeur of the event from optimal locations. The special seats will allow guests to enjoy an up-close view of both the boat procession and firework display, all from carefully selected spots along the riverbanks.
This year, the festival falls on a Saturday, allowing for an expanded family-friendly seating arrangement. Families can now enjoy more table seats, with an additional
16 tables set up for the B venue, providing a more intimate experience of the festival’s vibrant atmosphere.
Unique Boat Experiences
For a truly memorable experience, visitors can secure spots on the
special onboard viewing seats. Limited to
100 seats, each boat ride promises a spacious and comfortable setting where guests can participate in the tradition of
Osaka-ringing, exchanging friendly waves with passing boats, and enjoy mesmerizing firework displays erupting directly overhead.
In late June, JTB will also launch packages that combine lodging with viewing tickets, making it easier for visitors to plan their festival experience.
Background: A Cultural Revival
In the wake of the successful World Expo, Osaka is focusing on sustaining its tourism momentum by promoting local cultural highlights. The Tenjin Matsuri stands as a pillar of Osaka's cultural identity, and the current initiative aims to transform the viewing experience from a passive activity into a more engaging and participatory cultural content experience. By reimagining how the festival is enjoyed, these efforts seek to enhance the region's appeal and boost tourism spending.
