Revolutionizing Local Mobility in Nagayo
Public Technologies, a GovTech startup based in Chuo, Tokyo, has partnered with Nagayo Town, Nagasaki Prefecture, to kick off a groundbreaking initiative titled the "Nagayo Mobility Human Resource Development Project." This initiative leverages the framework provided by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's project aimed at resolving transportation gaps in local communities. The primary goal is to cultivate a workforce capable of autonomously addressing transportation challenges, thereby establishing a sustainable public transport system that benefits all residents.
Project Overview
The Nagayo Mobility initiative is designed as a training program where residents and town officials collaborate to develop their own mobility solutions. Through a series of workshops and field studies, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of transportation policies and local transportation dynamics. The program focuses on a couple of main agendas:
1.
Educational Workshops: These sessions will cover essential knowledge ranging from transportation policies to successful case studies and the operation of new transportation modes. Participants will collectively identify challenges faced in their localities, ensuring a shared understanding of issues.
2.
Field Studies: Participants will engage in real-world observations in neighboring municipalities, focusing on various operational aspects such as managing reservations, ensuring safety, securing personnel, dealing with costs, and mapping out incentive structures.
3.
Collaborative Workshops: The heart of the project is further developed in workshops where participants will create operational rules and framework proposals tailored to Nagayo Town's unique circumstances. By promoting self-organization and consensus among residents, the initiative will create a governance structure that encourages active participation.
Additionally, the residents of nearby Tokitsu Town will join in these collaborative sessions to explore broader regional cooperation possibilities, reinforcing a unique model of cooperation that emphasizes resident-led initiatives alongside government support.
Participant Criteria
The program is open to residents, including members from local associations and town staff, with an expected capacity of around 40 participants. The timeline for the program unfolds in successive stages:
- - October 1, 2025: First Study Session and Workshop
- - November 7, 2025: Second Study Session and Workshop
- - December 5, 2025: Field Study
- - Mid-December 2025: Third Workshop
- - Mid-January 2026: Fourth Workshop
Please note that the schedule may be subject to changes.
