From June 21 to November 3, 2024, the Machida Yakushi Pond Garden's Dahlia Park will open its gates to celebrate its 40th anniversary. Nestled in the heart of Machida City, this garden boasts one of the largest collections of dahlias in the Kanto region, spanning over 15,000 square meters. Visitors can expect to see a stunning variety of around 500 different dahlia varieties, totaling approximately 4,000 blooming plants. Each bloom showcases unique colors and forms, including two-tone flowers, striped patterns, and beautifully blended hues, ranging from monumental flowers exceeding 30 centimeters to charming pom-pom types measuring just 3 centimeters.
Anniversary Events and Attractions
During the opening period, guests can enjoy a range of activities and special events designed to commemorate the garden's milestone anniversary. Notably, the
Dahlia Fair will take place at the West Garden, where dahlias from various gardens across the region will be on display. This event aims to highlight the beauty of dahlias while offering local delicacies for visitors to savor. The
Dahlia Fair is scheduled for October 11 and 12, showcasing the unique attributes of dahlias and the diversity of regional cuisine.
Participate in Naming a Dahlia!
In an exciting initiative for all flower enthusiasts, the park will also host a naming contest for a newly cultivated original dahlia variety. With an approximate bloom diameter of 8 centimeters and its formal decorative flower shape, this new dahlia is awaiting a fitting name. Participants can submit their suggestions between July 1 and July 31, with the winners announced on October 11 during the
Kagayaki Festival.
Blueberry Picking Experience
Additionally, from mid-July through mid-August, visitors can indulge in a blueberry picking experience, perfect for families and culinary enthusiasts alike, for just 600 yen per cup. This hands-on activity allows guests to enjoy the garden's bounty while creating memorable family moments.
Special Admission Days
To honor elder visitors, those aged 65 and older will be granted free admission from September 13 to September 15, coinciding with the
