A Growing Movement in Board Games
The previous year saw an impressive 51% of participants as newcomers, highlighting the championship's growing popularity among both hardcore fans and casual players. This year, we are expecting an even larger turnout as we expand participation limits across every region to host over 1,400 players in total.
The Catan Japan Championship is not just a competition; it's an illustration of the board game industry's growth in Japan. Top contenders from each regional tournament will advance to compete for the championship title in the finals, with the winner representing Japan at the
2027 Catan World Championship.
What is Catan?
Catan is a strategic game set on an uninhabited island where players compete to build settlements and cities for scoring points. With over 45 million copies sold worldwide, Catan is often credited as the catalyst for the modern board game movement. The game's strategic depth encompasses negotiation and chance, attracting a broad range of players from beginners to experts.
Engaging with the Community
For those who may not feel ready to compete at the championship level, the
Catan Open event will also be hosted in conjunction with the championship. This initiative aims to provide a more relaxed environment for newcomers to engage with experienced players. Participants in the Catan Open will receive exclusive benefits, including spots in regional tournaments for the top players.
Commitment to Social Responsibility
The Catan Japan Championship prides itself on being an inclusive event that promotes equality and social connections through gaming. Embracing various backgrounds, the tournament serves as a platform that fosters relationships and underscores the importance of diversity. We believe in creating a better society through these shared experiences.
