Telkomsel Expands Its 5G Network in Greater Jakarta

Telkomsel is making strides to reinforce its position as a leading digital telecommunications provider by significantly expanding its Hyper 5G network in the Greater Jakarta area. This initiative comes with the support of Huawei, and is particularly timed to enhance connectivity during the Christmas and New Year festivities of 2024/2025.

The expanded network now encompasses critical routes in and around Jakarta, including from Soekarno-Hatta to Halim Perdanakusuma airports and key planned areas like Pantai Indah Kapuk 1 and 2. The connectivity extends to various shopping malls and government buildings from Pondok Indah to the National Monument (Monas). This strategic enlargement aims to gradually roll out 5G coverage across other prime locations throughout Indonesia.

The technological advancements of Telkomsel's 5G network allow for internet speeds up to four times faster than 4G, resulting in increased reliability and the capacity to connect more devices. Following its commercial launch in 2021, Telkomsel's Hyper 5G has developed into Indonesia’s most extensive and advanced network, with over 1,400 5G base stations across 56 cities and regencies. Indra added that Hyper AI ensures optimal service quality across varied circumstances, guaranteeing the best customer experience, particularly during high-traffic periods such as the festive season.

The low latency of Hyper 5G enhances the effectiveness of the Hyper AI capabilities, facilitating services like AI-driven customer support. Virtual assistants like Veronika for business-to-consumer interactions and Ted for business-to-business interactions are designed to provide rapid and effective responses to customer inquiries, ensuring superior service experiences in the 5G era.

During the festive season, Telkomsel is anticipating a data traffic surge of approximately 14.8%, with total data utilization projected to reach around 1,981 petabytes. To manage this increase, extensive infrastructure optimizations for both 4G/LTE and 5G networks have been implemented, alongside rigorous network testing at key routes and strategic locations to ensure seamless access to digital services for customers.
