Supporting Kumamoto Earthquake Relief Efforts
In the aftermath of the Kumamoto earthquake in Reiwa 8, Watering Co. has taken a commendable step to assist the local community. The company, led by President Maki Yasuda and based in Minato, Tokyo, has recently announced its collaboration with WOTA Inc., headed by CEO Yosuke Maeda, to support medical and welfare facilities in the affected areas.
Current Situation in Affected Areas
As of August 18, approximately 7,300 households, particularly in towns like Yatsushiro City, Uki City, and Hikawa Town, are still without water supply. This situation has hindered essential everyday activities such as bathing, washing hands, and laundry in the region. Acknowledging the plight of the victims, Watering Co. has been actively preparing to deploy portable water purification systems and essential equipment to facilitate water supply.
Since the earthquake struck, Watering Co. has responded to requests from local governments to ensure water and sanitary conditions in the disaster-stricken areas. The company is committed to not only providing immediate assistance but also maintaining a robust support system. They are establishing a framework to respond to inquiries from municipalities and related organizations in need of help regarding water supply and sanitation.
Recent Actions and Contributions
On August 4, Watering Co. swiftly delivered support equipment to Mifune Town in Kumamoto Prefecture, ensuring immediate accessibility to vital resources. Furthermore, on August 17, they provided water-circulating showers and handwashing stations—WOTA's innovative products—to support facilities in Kumamoto City that are crucial for healthcare and welfare.
Despite these contributions, the current situation reveals that there has not yet been a clear arrangement for public funding for maintenance and operational costs associated with these medical and welfare facilities. In light of this challenge, Watering Co. has decided to join the corporate sponsorship initiative led by WOTA, aimed at continuously enhancing the bathing and sanitary environments within these facilities.
Commitment to Continued Support
Watering Co. is committed to not only maintaining its current support efforts but also expanding them through this sponsorship. They seek to make a meaningful contribution to the preservation of water and sanitation conditions in the affected areas.
