eSports High School Students Triumph in NASEF Japan Championship

In an impressive display of talent and teamwork, students from eSports High School, Japan's first specialized communications high school for eSports, secured first place in the Apex Legends category of the 3rd NASEF Japan National High School eSports Championship. The final took place on December 7, 2025, where the top-performing teams battled it out online.

What is the NASEF Japan National High School eSports Championship?

The NASEF Japan National High School eSports Championship is organized by NASEF Japan (the North American Scholastic eSports Federation Japan office) and is designed to showcase the skills of high school students in competitive gaming. The Apex Legends segment began its qualifying rounds in October, attracting entries from 105 schools representing 143 teams. In the final competition, 20 teams, having succeeded in earlier rounds, competed in five matches of battle royale gameplay, with their rankings determined by the total points they accumulated during these matches.

A Remarkable Comeback: The Journey of the Champions

The team that claimed victory, known as 'Heroes Fish ver2', consisted entirely of second-year students. Although they struggled to make a significant impact in the initial two matches, their performance dramatically improved in the third match, where they achieved an astounding 26 eliminations, thus securing first place. Their momentum continued into the fourth match, where they once again finished on top, leading them to the overall championship title.

Insights from the Champions

Team leader, Kibou YNH, expressed his excitement about their win:
>"I'm thrilled we were able to take home the championship. We participated in scrims (practice matches) and focused on improving our weaknesses leading up to the tournament, so it's great that our hard work paid off."

Team member ugiugii noted:
>"I had the role of IGL (in-game leader) this time, and I was glad to see my teammates moving as I directed."

Another teammate, mido, shared:
>"I ended up getting knocked out during some of the encounters, but my teammates covered for me, which was a huge help."

An Impressive Showing from All Teams

In addition to the winning team, four teams from eSports High School and its sister schools showcased strong performances:
  • - Runner-up: Chuo High School's 'Yamato Spirit Ver3.0'
  • - 6th Place: eSports High School's 'Black Judgers'
  • - 7th Place: eSports High School's 'BIG x Cider'

All teams delivered remarkable results, underscoring the high level of competition.
