Arevon Energy Unveils Eland 1 Solar-plus-Storage Project in California



Arevon Energy, Inc., a prominent player in the renewable energy sector, has declared the commencement of operations at its Eland 1 Solar-plus-Storage Project located in Kern County, California. This innovative project comprises a substantial 384 megawatts direct current (MWdc) of solar power accompanied by an impressive 150 MW/600 megawatt hours (MWh) energy storage system.

This significant advancement marks a major step in Arevon's journey toward bolstering California's renewable energy infrastructure, bringing its total clean energy capacity within the state to over 3 gigawatts. The Eland 1 facility is strategically positioned in the city of Mojave and is the first of two phases planned for the Eland Solar-plus-Storage initiative, with the second phase currently under construction and expected to commence operations in the first quarter of 2025.

Together, these two phases will form one of the largest solar-plus-storage developments in the United States, with combined capital costs exceeding $2 billion. Upon completion, the total capacity will reach a remarkable 758 MWdc of solar energy paired with 300 MW of energy storage, offering a robust solution to meet electricity demands during critical peak periods in Southern California.

The integration of solar panels with energy storage solutions enables Eland to provide a predictable and dependable energy output, a vital aspect for enhancing the resilience of the electricity grid. The Eland 1 project promises extensive benefits for the local community, having generated employment for 325 full-time equivalent workers during its construction. The Eland project operates under a long-term power purchase agreement with the Southern California Public Power Authority, which handles contracts for both the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) and Glendale Water and Power. Engineering, procurement, and construction tasks for this landmark initiative have been spearheaded by SOLV Energy, a firm based in San Diego.

Arevon also continues to make strides across its other California projects, showcasing recent successes such as the operational launch of the Vikings Solar-plus-Storage Project and the Condor Energy Storage Project. Additionally, Arevon has secured financing for various ongoing projects, culminating in a significant achievement, with Vikings Solar-plus-Storage being honored with the Renewables Deal of the Year in Energy Storage by IJGlobal.

Operating on a national scale, Arevon Energy, with its headquarters in Scottsdale, Arizona, remains a front-runner in renewable energy development, successfully managing over 4,500 MW of utility-scale solar and energy storage projects across 17 states. The company is in the midst of constructing over 1,400 MW of fresh solar and storage capacity, complemented by a promising development pipeline of more than 6 gigawatts.
