MIB Agents Invites Research Applications for 2027 OutSmarting Osteosarcoma Grants
MIB Agents, an influential nonprofit organization specializing in pediatric osteosarcoma, has announced the opening of its annual OutSmarting Osteosarcoma research grant program. Starting September 9, 2026, researchers are welcome to submit Letters of Intent (LOI) as part of the program's mission to enhance treatment outcomes for osteosarcoma patients.
Commitment to Pediatric Osteosarcoma
Established in 2017, the OutSmarting Osteosarcoma initiative is dedicated to funding groundbreaking research efforts aimed at combatting osteosarcoma, a challenging form of primary bone cancer that affects roughly 1,000 individuals in the U.S. annually, with nearly half being children, teenagers, and young adults. MIB Agents has been active in addressing the unique needs of this community through focused research support.
A Decade of Contributions
In the past ten years, MIB Agents has generously awarded over $2.9 million to 37 research projects, each targeting the advancement of osteosarcoma treatments. For the upcoming 2027 funding cycle, MIB Agents introduces two significant grant opportunities: a $100,000 Hero Grant and a $50,000 Hope Young Investigator Grant. These funds are specifically allocated to both seasoned researchers and promising newcomers in the field.
Community-Driven Funding
The OutSmarting Osteosarcoma program stands out due to the active involvement of families impacted by osteosarcoma, who help to raise funds in honor of those currently facing the disease, referred to as OsteoWarriors, or in memory of loved ones, termed OsteoAngels. Kat Azima, the Director of Scientific Programs at MIB Agents, emphasizes that this initiative is not just about monetary support; it fosters a collaborative relationship between families and researchers aimed at transforming the future for osteosarcoma patients.
Rigorous Review Process
A hallmark of the OutSmarting Osteosarcoma program is its collaborative grant review process. The MIB Agents Scientific Review Committee, composed of scientific experts, works alongside Family Funds, which represent the patient community, to assess research proposals. This dual evaluation ensures funding decisions are steered towards achieving both scientific excellence and advocacy for patient-centered outcomes.
Application Guidelines
Researchers interested in contributing to this vital field can review eligibility criteria and submission instructions at MIB Agents’ official website. Letters of Intent are due by October 9, 2026, at 11:59 PM ET. High-scoring applications will be invited to present full proposals in December 2026, with final funding decisions expected by early May 2027.
