Insights from International Women's Day Event in Yurakucho
In anticipation of International Women's Day on March 8, Randstad Co., Ltd., a leading human resource service provider based in Chiyoda, Tokyo, organized an outreach event on March 6, 2026, at the Tokyo International Forum. The initiative aimed to express gratitude to working individuals while promoting the theme of 'Working Authentically.' This was visually represented through the distribution of 1,000 mimosa bouquets, symbolizing respect and appreciation for women in the workforce.
Event Highlights: The Streets of Yurakucho in Mimosa Yellow
The weather was perfect, drawing in numerous business professionals and curious locals right from the start at 11:00 AM. Randstad staff distributed the mini mimosa bouquets to passersby, which were widely appreciated, leading to all bouquets being handed out before the scheduled end of the event.
Public Sentiment Survey: Mixed Responses Reflected in Unique Data
During the event, Randstad conducted a public survey with two primary questions:
Has Japan become a country where women can thrive? and
Are individuals comfortable in their work environment? A total of 850 participants provided their feedback, not simply choosing from four options, but interacting thoughtfully as they placed stickers to represent their sentiments. The results revealed a nuanced view of women's participation in society.
The Coexistence of Positive Expectations and Quiet Stagnation
The largest cluster of stickers was placed in the area signifying, 'Society has become an accommodating place, and I feel comfortable.' However, interestingly, responses were diverse across the board. Some felt that while society has made strides, their personal comfort remains lacking. Conversely, others expressed skepticism about societal advancements but found satisfaction in their immediate environment. This highlights that the experiences of women cannot be simplified into one statement about 'women's empowerment.'
The Necessity to Address the Individual Variability
The scatter of stickers indicates a pressing need for companies to shift from uniform policies to tailored support reflecting individual circumstances. The personal disparities in both expectations of society and individual satisfaction can provide valuable insights for future efforts towards equity, diversity, and inclusion (ED&I).
Randstad’s Commitment: Increasing Female Leadership Representation
Randstad strives for a fair society where everyone can work authentically. As a demonstration of this commitment, the proportion of female managers within the company rose to 29.4% by the end of February 2026, up from 29.1% the previous year. The company is dedicated to continuing to create an environment that allows all employees to fully utilize their abilities.
Upcoming International Women's Day Event
To build on the energy generated by the March 6 event, Randstad will host an internal International Women's Day event on March 13, featuring a special talk with female managers and their supervisors. The event aims to further accelerate the promotion of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEI&B) throughout the organization.
