LG's Hai Phong Plant Achieves Cybersecurity Milestone
LG Electronics continues to assert its dominance in automotive technology, with its Hai Phong manufacturing facility in Vietnam attaining the distinguished Cyber Security Management System (CSMS) Level 3 certification from TÜV Rheinland. This recognition positions the Hai Phong plant as not only the largest hub for vehicle components but also as a leading site for maintaining rigorous cybersecurity standards in the automotive industry.
On August 19, 2025, the certification ceremony took place at the Hai Phong facility, marking a significant achievement in LG's commitment to protecting automotive components from increasing digital threats. This state-of-the-art plant stands out as the first globally to receive both CSMS Level 2 and Level 3 certifications simultaneously within TÜV Rheinland’s guidelines, thereby validating its comprehensive cybersecurity measures throughout the production process.
The CSMS certification ensures that cybersecurity protocols are thoroughly applied across all phases of vehicle and component lifecycle management. As the automotive industry shifts toward Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs), the importance of cybersecurity has never been clearer. Manufacturers face heightened risks during production, making it crucial for suppliers to adopt robust protections. The urgency is further emphasized by global regulations, such as the UNECE R155 regulation, which demands vehicles be certified with a CSMS prior to market release. Since July 2024, compliance with this requirement has been mandatory for vehicles entering diverse international markets, including those in Europe, Asia, Oceania, and Africa, while the regulatory frameworks in the U.S. and China are also evolving to meet these cybersecurity standards.
To date, LG has consistently fortified its cybersecurity across all sectors of the Vehicle Solution (VS) Company. Following the attainment of CSMS Level 2 in 2023, the recent achievement of Level 3 certification for the Hai Phong facility places LG at the forefront of automotive cybersecurity management. Going forward, there are plans to obtain this certification for other major manufacturing sites, ensuring a cohesive approach to cybersecurity across operations.
In addition, in 2024, LG obtained the Automotive SPICE for Cybersecurity certification, a standard formulated by European OEMs to gauge the cybersecurity and software reliability of automotive suppliers. This standard has gained traction, with major U.S. automakers, including General Motors and Ford, now integrating it into their supplier assessment processes.
Eun Seok-hyun, president of the LG VS Company, emphasized the value of such internationally recognized cybersecurity certifications, stating, "CSMS Level 3 strengthens our position as a trusted partner to global automakers. Through an unmatched commitment to security and quality, LG will continue to enhance its leadership in the automotive components market."
As a pivotal player in the automotive industry, LG Vehicle Solution Company provides innovative solutions that enhance vehicles' operational capabilities. Their portfolio includes advanced head units, displays, connectivity options, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), lighting systems, e-powertrains, and a comprehensive suite of software solutions designed for software-defined vehicles.
This commitment to excellence was illustrated during the certification event, reinforcing LG's aim of "Driving Better Future Mobility." The acquisition of CSMS Level 3 certification at the Hai Phong facility is not just a milestone for LG but a significant step forward in the relentless pursuit of improved cybersecurity standards across the automotive landscape.
